Does anyone know when and where the Pz.I Ausf.A Munitionsschlepper was used? Clearly, this was based on an early-war vehicle, and probably saw limited use, but I am not sure whether it would have been deployed on the Eastern Front or in North Africa.

Spielberger's book says there were 51 of these by 1940. Photos I have seen seem to indicate these were used in Europe, I've yet to see a photo that would indicate this was used in Africa.

sturmbatterie 660 was the only unit to have them in France in 1940.

From what I have read, they were only used in Poland and France. The surviving vehicles were converted to Flakpanzer I's before the Russian campaign started. Hopefully, someone will have a better timeline.

Apart from the early version that had the split hatch, and the later the open box type, I can't help much..but Tristar made an early type you might scrounge on ebay if you are trying to source one.

It is now re-released under the hobby boss label, and the kit is exactly the same. Tristar kits are still expensive on ebay, the hobby boss branded ones are quite reasonably priced. Also masterbox used to do the box superstructure one but it is oop.

Ah I see. I was lucky enough to grab a few Tristar kits on clearance from an online place.

The Tristar kit is a very nice item in many ways. I reviewed it a few years back. In actuality, the Tristar "munischlepper 1A" kit has the complete Pz.1A early/late kit with all of the interior including the engine compartment, plus an extra hull-top to provide for that open-top-w-cover arrangement, AND a very neat ammo trailer (which I sadly gamolluxed-up in my review... ).

In terms of building the munischlepper... You should consider carefully which of the interior bits would likely have been left in and which not - for example, I doubt that the un-armed munischlepper had full MG-15 mag-racks (the only such racks in the kit)... And there is no sort of ammo-storage for payload provided inside the hull - although the trailer IS complete in almost every way.

And, IMHO, the added specialhull-top is not quite as crisply-molded as is the original Pz. 1A hull top in the Tristar kit (I don't know about the HobbyBoss copy...), so I would consider working the original hull-top for better detail.

So - you can build the 1A with all interior, or a munischlepper, and have all the turret stuff for other uses.

Cheers! Bob :-)

I was pleasantly surprised when I got the panzer I "training" tank as it came with an engine, partial interior and a turret..always handy for the spares bin!
