So, it's ether two tanks or they unscrewed upper hull, cut front part behind side windows from another tank and bolt it to this one. I don't see other reason for taking fenders off.

I've carefully examined every picture I've found of this vehicle and I'm not yet convinced there were 2 made. Moving the driver's visor over is probably a case of needing more room for the driver because of the large gun mount. Given it's use as a close support artillery piece, there was probably not much reason to relocate the holes since the driver could probably keep the visor open the majority of the time and the periscope was most likely eliminated. The front plate of a Pz.III Ausf.H has applique armor. They could have cut this off, modified the hole in the original hull plate to move the visor over (why cut through two plates, when you only need to cut through one? And cutting the welds loose is easier then cutting the two plates), and then re-welded the applique armor with the two holes still in the same place. This way, they would not have had to repair the superstructure armor, only make a mount for the visor.
As for the fenders being removed, you can see that the Bison II side plates needed to be raised and a spacer plate was added on top of the fender. It would have been easier to fabricate this odd shaped plate with the fenders taken off. Or, perhaps the original fenders were too damaged to mount the Bison II side plates, so fenders off of another Panzer III were used as replacements.

Jon, thank you for reply. It was more then helpful. You are absolutely right, holes are on the same place and drivers visor vas moved. Even the patch they welded is visible.

I missed that totally. So, it is definitely one tank.

Hey guys, how it's going? I came to the point where I have to wait for transmission to arrive, everything else what could be done is finished.

So I will slowly start with my two other entries.
Zvezda Sd.Kfz.251 ausf b with Dragon Pak 38

And Academy Stuart with Emhar 18pdr gun

This Ehmar kit is only for try, I will have to order Resicast 18 pounder. I already have a long list of extra items for this campaign waiting for payday. So, no kits next month...

I've decided on the Renault UE and Pak 36 combo like John A's pics

Any ideas on how you going to tie down the pak?

hey all,
would any body know if Friulmodel tracks ATL122 fit the sprocket that came with dragons kit 6440?

Sorry John, that sprue is now safely tucked into my unbuilt Bison 2 box...

..as to how I'm mounting the Pak, I was originally going to do the most simple version with the wheels resting on the fenders, a tree branch or sapling trunk wired in front of the wheels. I have seen pics of that one, but I forgot that the Renault hatches would have to be open or the gun trail would sit up on the domes. Opening the hatches would mean adding an interior and well... I am past that stage after a pleasant few hours over the weekend:

So I am going to scratch build the mounts and depict this vehicle, where the hatches can be closed. It has the trailer and twin headlight configuration too.

Started the Pak from Dragon - considering it was done way after Tamiya's ancient offering, it does not improve on Tamiya at all. I'm seriously considering adding the cover as per the pic, just hide as much of the Pak as I can....

I moved on a little with my build.CMK "Stug III drivers compartment" fits perfectly into Dragon hull. I added few details and started painting inside.

I presume that vehicle was repainted inside with the same color as outside but I will not do that to avoid boring one color fresh painted look.

Thank's, Peter. I am trying to put my self in position of mechanics who build this vehicle. Making a lot of 1:1 scale scratch building my self, I am going to try to implement that logic in to this build. As Jon said, since they moved visor it ment that seat was moved too, to make space for construction that carry the gun. This is perfectly visible once you start playing around with constriction. Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hello everyone!
Here's my progress on building the model.

Bogi, gets perfect. I like.

With the new models, the campaign is becoming more and more interesting.
Good luck.

Bummer

Really about Dragons pak kit? I do have Tamiyas pak in the stash. Might buy the AM barrel and PE set.

Excellent choice for this campaign!!

At Bogibg,
Your interior work looks amazing! Any issues so far with your build? I know my bison II has a few issues.

Looking Good Kalin. Lots of interiors on show.

John, if you have Tamiya's version in the stash go with it, don't waste the money on Dragon's. Poor fit especially around the breach block, poor alignment of the lower rectangular shields although I don't need them for this build, and some serious flash and thickness issues. The figures - good for practice only I think.

And John, I don't know if I should add up to your problems with this drawing from the guy who served in one of bison II.

You can see different layout of mines storage and that gun cradle is already shorten, not like Dragon's idea of cradle entering motor area.

In Panzer Traccts 'Rommel's Funnies" there is a picture of a dismounted Sig 33 from a Fahrgestell that shows the trail was not shortened:

Another pic shows the engine and deck removed and whilst not clear, perspective suggests that the trail was not shortened.

Don't be sorry Bogi. Your information was intended to be helpful and that is to be applauded. For a long time many people thought what you said was correct, as such comments are common around the 'Net and in some books. It was not until these pics surfaced, that they were misconceptions was proven.

For years people painted the Tamiya 'Pink Panther' Land Rover 'Pinkies' bright pink, inside and out, some including the seat covers. Later an ex-SAS veteran that used them revealed the colour was more a satin to flat 'dusky Pink' - a pink yellow colour- and the inside was never painted, it was left Bronze Green. The vehicles used in Dhofar did not have smoke grenade launchers nor many other details in the Tamiya kit that were related to European use vehicles.

Very nice indeed BogiBg. I forgot to say previously, I love your rough weld work on the gun mount. That really does fit the theme here.

If I can make one suggestion, a little bare metal on the drive sprocket teeth and the edge and inner face of the idler where it rubs on the track face. This is a running pzr 3 and whilst the paint is kept up to it, the idler shows how quick it is lost:

In similarly, this Stug shows the inner face of the idler and some wear on the sprocket

Thanks guys. I painted it Peter, but it's lost under effects. That's why I avoid putting send effects on my models.
You can see it a little before heavy weathering.

It is still visible on finished model, on right angle.

Considering speed, this is probably the slowest build I had in my life. But, with added CMK resin interior, Masterclub tracks, Aber rings between road wheels, one week road trip to visit my parents, it couldn't go faster.

Great Bogi. I couldn't see it in the original pics, but the macro ones show a really well done effect. Pity it ended up partially covered it is so realistic looking.

Your Marder is looking great too Kalin.
