According to our friends at Wikipedia, the Main Battle Tank was born with the creation and fielding of the Centurion by Britain at the end of WWII. Combining the firepower and armor of heavy (or infantry) tanks with the maneuverability of medium (or cruiser) vehicles, the main battle tank can do it all. Since then, the MBT has been developed by countries around the world into high tech masters of the battlefield.

How about a Main Battle Tank campaign, covering all MBTs produced from the end of WWII to the present? It would sure allow for a lot of variety! Any interest?

Depending on timeframe, I'd be in! (Got lots of MBTs in the stash - Leopards, Chieftains, Challengers, Leclerc, Ariete, M48s, M60s...)

Oh yeah, somehow I've acquired a bunch of T54/55's & Abrams. They just kinda crept up on me. Count me in especially if it's a late Fall start.

There are already campaigns starting in October and November, so I'm guessing we wouldn't see this go until December, assuming it's approved fairly soon. I know what I'll be building:

Well, one of them anyway.

It's a good time to be a Merkava aficionado!

Starting date close to end of the year sounds good, and I already have few MBTs (Abrams, Chieftain, M48A3, Merkava, Tiran 5). So would join the campaign.

Definitely sounds interesting, and a later start time is great. Just need to get all the stuff gathered together.

There might be one or two that could be suitable if I dig really deep into the stash

Depending on dates, I would be interested too. A few to choose from in the stash.

Robin, will this be the one you finish? (Couldn't resist sorry)

Nothing to be sorry about
I have some half finished kits set up for a possible "Unfinished business 2019" though ....

My planning for the winter & spring didn't survive contact with reality, partially due to procrastination ...

I had the Lanchester for the WWI campaign ready for painting but the improvised repair to the compressor tank failed at 15 PSI ....

First of all I need to finish rebuilding my compressor. The tank had rusted through so I have replaced it with the tanks/bottles from two fire extinguishers. The parts for the pipes and couplings are ready so now I "only" have to design/build something to hold the tanks in position. The tanks will be vertical with all the connections, including the drain plug, at the bottom end. In this way I can be certain that any water collection inside the tank will be possible to drain completely. Unscrewing the "cap" gives me a one inch inspection hole.

Are you sure buying a preassembled new one is not an option.

Hope you get it all together soon. Cheers

A new Sil-Air of the type I have isn't exactly cheap, I would rather use that cash to fill out the stash. A loud and noisy one is not an option
The two empty fire extinguishers were free, most of the other metal parts are recycled from other stuff or things I have found. I bought a new pressure regulator/moisture trap/pressure gauge-combo, some small fittings and hose. Total cost somewhere around 50 Euros.
The rest is pure fun, brass glows so cosy in the dark when hard soldering. The whole contraption will get a tinge of steam punk, sort of steam punk meets refinery. Maybe I will add some extra parts just for the fun of it

I managed to find spots to attach the pressure gauges from the fire extinguishers. Those gauges don't show numbers, just red and green fields but it looks nicely complicated
The new regulator has a double connection for air brush hoses and I will reuse the old regulator. Since there are two tanks connected in parallell I had positions for both regulators so now I have connections for three airbrushes, 1+2.
With two regulators I can have two different pressure settings on the outgoing air. Two connections for painting and one, higher pressure, for blowing dust with a cheap low precision airbrush.
The total tank volume has increased by somewhere around 50% so I get slightly longer totally silent periods.

The really valuable result of this rebuild is that the drain plugs are in accessible places and they are at the lowest points of the tanks. The old tank was a horizontal cylinder with the drain plug on the side. Getting to the drain plug was either by partially disassembling the compressor or by jacking it up on blocks to be able to get underneath (somewhat like draining old oil through the bottom plug of the sump on an old car engine). The drain plug was over a half inch hole in the bottom plate so access was complicated and tools were required. The new drain plugs are a lot easier to get at and they have wingnuts for ease of use.

I might go with a Tiran to make your Merkava's feel at home.

Miniart or Skif Tiran 4.
Tamyia 's Tiran 5.
Trumpeter's Tiran 6.

I will pick one..

That was my first choice too, I have one in the stash already, as well as an Israeli one. If not the Aussie Cent maybe the Tamiya Tiran 5 or Challenger 1 for me.

Considered the Conqueror, but it is not in the linked list - being mainly a support vehicle for the Centurion I suppose.

Count me in, i've a couple of Merkava in my stash.

But i've a question: are the centurion Sho't or the Magach authorized?

I'd say yes, they're variants of MBTs being used as MBTs.

I'll get the proposal submitted for approval in the next day or so!

Yep - been topping 30c down here in the sunny south, so no airbrush action since early June! I'm hoping the weather breaks in time to finish at least one campaign...
