Hi everyone! I had signed up for the campaign early on but with a busy last few months I had missed the starting time for this campaign! I still would like to participate but would like to work on a model that may or may not fit in with this theme. Looking through my stash for an antiaircraft related kit, I was reminded that I have an old Revell "S" kit from 1957 that I keep meaning to build. I would like to work on the Revell Talos antiaircraft missile and launcher. While it is normally a Navy subject, quite a few were launched from land. In fact, the army worked on developing this for their use in 1957. Oh, and it did get 4 Mig kills in Vietnam!
Here's the kit that I would like to work on for this campaign:

Would this be an acceptable subject for this campaign? I am involved in a few other builds right now but I should be able to add this to the bench especially as I am rather jazzed at building it!
Have fun modeling
Mike

My entry looks like this:

Like ComradeMP I'm doing a Marksman, but with the twist of being on an M60 hull! The turret was touted as a drop-in fit to any current MBT hull with an adaptor ring. The pic that sparked my interest was:

So far, my progress is entirely in that first shot - I dug the base kits out of the stash! Progress to come when I have some.

(I've got another "Franken-AA" build up my sleeve if I get time before the end...)

Bogi, sorry to hear that. It was coming along great. What happened?

Mike, rules say:
Anti-Aicraft weapons, either on a fixed, wheeled or tracked base (yes there is a typo in Aircraft! )

so your choice would seem to fit in perfectly. I have never seen that kit, so I for one are curious to see you complete it.

The Marksman has been fitted to various MBT hulls. The Finns put some on a T-55AM hull which Takom also do a kit of:

but now have them on a Leopard 2 hull

Yesterday I did some PE stuff and closed the Driver compartment.

At this stage this is an absolute fun build. Everything fits perfect.

Thanks Peter! This caught my eye as it is a bit more unusual and I only have seen this kit built up 3 or 4 times over the years. I actually have a few of these kits in my stash so this campaign is the perfect motivation to start one. If I had a bit more time to build over the next few months I would do something more complicated (Patriot or a Grumble) but at least I have the chance to finish this once I start! I need to finish off one of the kits on my bench to make room then I will kick off this build in the next several weeks.
Have fun modeling!
Mike

I experimented with painting without using paint in effort to replicate look of mud or sand applied on vehicle.

After floor polish it went too yellow and looked like messy paint job.

But the main reason is that I got pissed off with my self for progressing to far with this model instead of finishing what I started before. So I decided to punish my self a little.

Up close and personal it might have been a disaster, but from the pics it doesn't look too bad. A flat coat and light filter with some neutral Earth colours may have blended it back to an effective finish. Your call, but I think you were a bit hard on yourself Bogi.

Maybe. But I think then I will lose more time trying to fix it then to built another one. Anyway, thank you and Kalin for support. I am already working on that other one, only minus I have is 40e from my pocket.

Ammunition trailer is almost done. Some PE still needs to be added as I want to display the storage box open with its contents visible. I'll paint it with primer but will wait on the painting until the tow vehicle is completed. Thinking about a disruptive sand over panzer grey scheme.

Some Progress with parts of the hull.

I decided to leave the engine. Afterwards there is nothing to see from it.

Such nice cool builds going on.

I cracked the box on my Tamiya 1/35 Mobelwagen on Saturday morning and over the two days I put in about 2 hours work on and off.

I do have RB Models gun barrel and Master Club tracks on order.

Some progress on my build - I've assembled the suspension and tracks. The ancient Esci kit had link & length tracks that turned out to be kinda fun to build. I used a few "steel" roadwheels left over from an AFV Club kit to match the pics of the real thing. Each wheel/track assembly is only dry-fitted to the hull so they come off for painting. (Up close the difference in hub detail is striking!)

I am ready to start my build for this campaign! I should have one of my current in-progress models completed this weekend which would clear up some space on my bench to start this project. I am planning to work on an old 1957 Revell antiaircraft missile called Talos. While it served well for the Navy, the Army looked to modify this for their land based use in the late 1950s. Here's a photo that I found of the Talos ready for a test fire at White Sands around the time of the Army development work. The Revell kit has this exact launcher.

I usually build my kits in operational markings but I sure love this bright scheme so I'll go with theses colors. Here's what the Revell kit looks like as I start the build. Being an old kit, most of the parts were broken off the sprues so I went ahead and bagged the different colored parts together to hopefully prevent losing something.

Have fun modeling!

So some not so small update of my truck:

Still, a alot of work to do, but it is almost built.
Next step I will finish the launcher.

I’m in with Pit Road’s all-metal 1/35 scale type 96 25mm single AA gun!

The type 96 was the standard medium anti-aircraft gun of the Imperial Japanese Navy throughout World War II. A mediocre weapon compared to its contemporaries in other navies, it was nevertheless a mainstay of IJN antiaircraft defense, being mounted aboard practically every ship in the fleet.

I’m no fan of metal kits because of the difficult clean up compared to plastic, but I couldn’t pass up this unusual subject. Cleaning the mold marks off the parts was indeed tedious, but with only 17 parts total things go fast once assembly starts! This is how things are looking after just step 1 of the instructions.

Very interesting kit Tim. The bane of most metal kit builders is a warped barrel, but you seem to have lucked out with this one.
