I would like to share some pictures of my Kanonenjagdpanzer with you. This is not the original version however, but a fictional version. What if the West-German army had decided to mount the L7 105 mm gun to the standard, 90 mm Kanonenjagdpanzer? I decided to depict this in 1:35 scale by converting a Revell kit. The result can be seen here. I hope you like it!

Jasper,

I do like it - very much indeed; logical and oh so redolent of the Wehrmacht.

Not too far removed perhaps is my own idea of a "What If" whereby if Chieftain had never really worked sufficiently well, would the British Army have used Leopard - say the 1A4? I have the ideas and will build it - one day(!)

Lovely work.

Thank you very much Brian!

It seems like a logical thing to do, the goal of a tank destroyer like this was often to be cheaper to produce or to mount a bigger gun. Your Leopard idea sounds very interesting as well, I hope to be able to see the result here some day!

Jasper

Like your what if , wonder if a shorter barrel would look good as well say like off of a M60a2 starship , Be nice to see an updated version of the original kit

Cool "what if", excellently done! I'm assuming cross-country mobility wasn't required - that gun's just asking to get buried muzzle-first in bumpy terrain. Then again, exactly the same problem faced the Jagdpanzer IV L70 Lang, and it didn't stop the Germans fielding them...

That is a good question, personally I think a longer barrel looks better on most tanks. Just look at the Leopard 2A5 and 2A6. The Revell kit could use an update indeed, the fit is quite bad and it lacks detail. What’s even worse is that the entire gun mantlet is the wrong shape.

Thank you Tom!

I hadn’t thought of that yet, but that could be a serious problem indeed! Interesting to hear the Jagdpanzer IV had the same problem. That tank was quite a bit lower than this one though...

Wasn't there talk about upgrading the gun on the original with a 120mm, before it got axed? ISTR something like that...

Weight becomes an issue with larger guns and soon you need the full Leopard chassis instead of the lighter one. The missile firing version was Ideal for this chassis. A 4 tubed Tow launcher or a twin Hellfire launch rail would be cool.
