Hi John. Thanks for the reply and observations. The thing with Tigers is that there are multiple variations on a theme, like the steel wheels issued. I am no expert, so any information or a good advice is always welcome.

No probs Robert, and as you said, the variations can give you headaches trying make sure you represent the right type of vehicle when you do a model, steel road wheels, late turrets on early hulls and vice versa and hybrid battlefield repairs, it can be a nightmare.
I think the main reason for the steel road wheel introduction was the issue of mud and debris build up between the wheels, the main problem being the third outer overlapping road wheel which acted as a stop to mud and crap escaping, then building up and causing issues with clogging up the running gear. This would become even more of a problem during winter when more mud and then freezing would occur.

The steel wheels was to save on rubber which at that point war was running very low as all sync oil being produced was for gasoline and such. To overcome the issue with mud and ice clogging the wheels most crews remove the outer wheel closet to the drive sprockets. German engineering never corrected the clogging problem with their overlapping wheel system.

Well corrected Mark, we live and learn. I did read someplace about the wheel clogging issues, but the lack of rubber and sync oil makes perfect sense.

Robert, I was looking for 332 and no luck thus far, but i did see a decent shot of the front of 331 showing some good general detail, hopefully the link will work below, ( Im not to sure how to upload a picture in here yet ) if not you should look at world war photos, gallery, Germany and then the Tiger 2 section, its near the end.

http://www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/germany/tanks-2-3/tiger/tiger-i-tank-france-1944-5/

I think the cam would be the usual German 3 tone cam.

John

Thanks John & Marc. I also launched this topic on ML and a lot information already makes it a closer framework.
It certainly is Mid production. Ron Owen Hayes on ML pointed at the MG Port, which dates the Tiger I round August 1943.
For the purchase of a Tiger I kit that would represent it, my talent for picking the impossible clearly shows off. Some good pointers from David Byrden got me off the cheap track backdating the AFV Club 35S25 or 35079.
So the bargain hunt for a close Dragon Mid production is on.
I think the Carius release 6888 and in particular the 6700 make a close match to what we see on the photo.

To be Continued...

The AVRE at pivot point would be cool, but I'll have to be realistic with what I can complete, and this is what I'll be building:

Terrain isn't too complex, not too many figures, I have the kit (Tamiya's M551) and decals are available (I think the side number could be 25, which would mean I could use Echelon's "Love Bug" decals).

Edit: I think it's 36 after all. The first digit doesn't look like 2 or 1 for that matter, and 2nd could be 6. Anyway, decals are available.

Nope, it's "25" from C troop, 3/4 cav. Found picture from Hunnicutt's book that has the same flag and "2" that shaped like mirrored "5". Anyway, this is the photo I'll build even though the decals may need some modifications.

Hello Pasi.
Nice and interesting photo. I like the relaxed sit of the soldiers. The flag is a real nice detail. I'm interested in the time frame. Is this WWII - Korea - Vietnam? Not familiar with American armor in particular...

Kind regards,

Robert Jan

Nice choice Pasi. Still a bit of a challenge ahead of you.

Robert, it is 'Nam. The Sheridan wasn't around until 1967. It had a long service life considering its short comings...

This is a cool concept I've played with before:

No idea what I'll build this time around, but I'm in!

Nice Chris. Do you have the spoked road wheels and duck bill extensions to go with the rest?

Wow Chris. I like the Dortmunder.
Ordered my Tiger I Mid this weekend. Already sorted all parts for Tiger I to go in one box.
Lots to sort out when it comes to other materials I could probably use. Big fun this will be, I'm pretty sure about that.

I agree Speedy, I think this is going to be a great campaign.... I'm very interested in seeing what everyone is going to be building. All I can say is I'm still undecided between a late Panther G or a late Tiger .... decisions decisions

Not fully decided yet, but one contender is this DUKW and Goliath mine:

There are other choices...

Nice pic. I ordered the KFS rider that project at another time.

Might do this

Just need to find some figures for it.

Spoked roadwheels come with the kit and the vehicle here has a mix of spoked and stamped to my eye. I also have two types of duckbills from Bronco and some duckbills and T62 tracks from MasterClub. Haven’t decided yet which tracks to use for this build.

Some cool looking pictures and proposed builds. The Enterprise is amazing Tim as is your Valley of Tears Joseph.

I am thinking of something along the lines of these M10s fighting in Aachen.
