Arch,
Thanks for taking the “risk” and ordering one. Looks real for sure.

It was a bit pricey, but I probably spent more to buy three incomplete Renwal kits to make one complete kit circa 2002-03.
And then it was re-released......

Great!

Renwall one now to be sold - and I'll then save my pennies for this monster; absolutely love it. Some of the Tankograd books have very atmospheric pictures of this gun deployed in Germany.

It's going to prove a bit difficult to display on my usual A3/A4 sized bases though (!)

Thanks to all for unravelling the mystery of this.

Don't forget, David Doyle has a book out about the M65 Atomic Cannon too.

Wow, very cool photos. Three guns meant at least two batteries firing together.

Arch,
Thanks for the great photos. Yes, David Doyle’s book is excellent, very detailed, as are Robert Skipper’s electronic files of photos on the M65. There’s also some great videos out there on You-tube from official files. Looking at the plastic though, I’m just a bit disappointed in the split barrel, but I guess it’s to big to slide-mold. Please show us more as you unpack the kit!

Well, think this clears any possible doubts remaining about the news on the release of the kit. With lots of modelling rumours running around the net everyday, there's still some serious people trying to provide/publish accurate news and info.

Well, I searched for the Ebay supplier myself and it turns out he is very close to the location for Merit International, only 6 miles away. I can't say that this fact actually means anything though, but I notice that this boat motor company carries quite a few Merit kits that don't seem to be available at the usual US suppliers. There are European sellers are charging somewhat less than what he does, but shipping would be extra and probably significant. My suspicion is that the price the boat motor company is charging (which includes shipping) may be the market cost for the foreseeable future. No other info, just an educated guess.

I thought Merit was back east somewhere— it’s in CA?

I find it curious that the company with what seems to be the largest inventory of Merit International kits in the Western Hemisphere is a boat motor shop a mere 9 to 12 minute drive from Merit. They are practically on the same street:

17421 Gale Ave
City of Industry, CA 91748

Head southeast on Gale Ave toward S Hatcher Ave
2.3 mi

Continue onto E Walnut Dr N
2.0 mi

Turn left onto S Lemon Ave
0.3 mi

Turn right onto Currier Rd

Destination will be on the right
0.5 mi

20934 Currier Rd
Walnut, CA 91789

This could simply be a coincidence, but it is curious nonetheless.

Welp, I took the plunge, goaded on by a 10% eBay coupon. I was thinking it might be available for less at AMPS, but I'm getting more pessimistic by the day . . .

I have started my build ... very good fit of pieces loads of detail on this piece.... love it!
I still have only seen this kit offered by the dealer I bought it from.... seems a bit weird .. but they delivered in a very timely fashion.. in fact it was earlier than mentioned.

Got the kit today, it is real, in case you had any doubt.

The box is marked as being made by the same company in Macau that is listed on Trumpeter and Hobby Boss kits.

I am well into the build ... been using David Doyles book on the M-65 and these guys ( does anyone know if it is really Trumpeter? )
have really NAILED this kitdetail wise it is the best kit I have ever built ... great fit and virtually zero flash!
Going to buy another one so I can have my own battery!!
If I know how to add pix on the site ( not very good at this kind of thing I am afraid... ) I would add pix of the build

As much as Trumpeter is really Trumpeter, yes.

The manufacturer and address that is on the box (Wa San Development (Macau) Limited) is the same one that is on recent Trumpeter kit boxes. On top of that, on Trumpeter's website they say they are part of Yatai Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. On Hobby Boss' website, they say they are part of Yatai Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. It's all the same, more or less.
