Hi guys! I am trying my hand a assembling and painting a figure. This will be a bit of a challenge, but a good distraction from my current crop of armor models. The figure in question is the Airborne Miniatures SF Operator OIF/OEF.

I need a little help with some of the base colors though. The parts in question are the helmet, the tan gear and the green gear. I'm hoping some of you have some go to paint colors for that stuff that you wouldn't mind sharing.

Thanks for the help
Mike

The jackets are actually gray, not green.

We paint our helmets with Krylon camo colors. Note that mine is tan and brown, to match when we still occasionally wore DCU's in '08.
The body armor is USMC issue - coyote brown.

Unfortunately I currently have no access to the unadulterated version of the photo below:

I like Vallejo Reflective green for a lot of the green, nylon pouches. In my experience, the nylon pieces didn't weather as much as anything made from canvas or cloth (the real thing). It was like it has a bit of a sheen that repeled duat a little.
I like to keep an assortment of Vallejo greens out when I'm painting figures or stowage.

Thanks Robert - that's very helpful. I was planning to do the jacket in the 3 color DCU as well, I think I've seen them in that pattern too. Does that seem reasonable? Or is light gray the only option?

Thanks

The Iraqi in my first photo is wearing the DCU jacket. We quit wearing them when we got issued the gray jackets. The gray ones were SF issue, whereas the DCU jackets were worn by Big Army as well.

When it was a little colder we wore the black fleece, which we were initially issued in 2002 for Afghanistan. But we still wear it occasionally. This is from 2008:

We also received a huge bag of cold weather gear we called the "Seven Layer Burrito." Few of us wore the outer garments as they were too bulky.
Our pouches were also the same Coyote color that matched the USMC body armor. Everything came in a huge bag we affectionately named "the Dead Hooker Bag."
The exception might have been a black radio pouch for the Harris, although I used a coyote one.

Hey Dan, someone once told me that no one is accidentally a sabres fan!

But to answer your question, yes from buffalo originally and yes I am also a suffering sabres fan.
