If it's ok to add my name to the list, then it might encourage me to get at least one (of four) M-47's completed (with an AML 60 in the wings as well). What is the official date to start and finish (as well as where to sign up)?

Just gets better and better James.

John welcome aboard. But why are you limiting yourself to finishing just one?

LOL...why limit myself to just one? Let me get by with just getting to one, then I'll jet out there and maybe get more finished!

On a side note: you sure you want a name PetBat as a nickname when it kinda relates to the wet markets in China? LOL

Been my email and nickname name since I first set up the net in 1995. The provider then used the first 3 letters of your first and last names and a number sequence back then and I just kept it to make things easy.

I always thought the source of the sequence was obvious but if I had a $1 for every time someone asked me if I actually had a pet bat......

Hello! I'd like to join this campaign. With Corona restrictions in place I find I have more time on my hands to work on these stalled projects...

Will probably crack on with the ugly duckling Steyr tracked truck.

Cheers

I've decided on my first entry - a "Super-M48" I've been working on on&off for a couple years. The real thing was a prototype improvement scheme aimed to help the German army offload obsolete M48s in the early 1990s, but was overtaken by the collapse of the Cold War and the subsequent flooding of the market with better tanks like Leopard 1 & 2, so never got beyond the demonstrator unit. My build started with a DML upper hull/turret, Tamiya lower hull, Revell turret details, Legend resin bits from their M48A3G conversion, and even some sideskirts from the otherwise-horrible Heller Leo 1 kit! The white stuff of course is Evergreen styrene - I oughta take out shares in the company...

Still lots to do to it, adding hull details, building indy-link Leo2 tracks, and then painting...

And just when I thought I was the only one here with Advanced Modelers Syndrome (AMS)! I thought I had to buy stock in Evergreen as well. Thinking my M47's were overworked/overdone, you come along and steal my thunder! Thanx! Now I don't feel so bad about over-complicating my models! Nice work by the way!

Thanks! And to think I got back into tanks to dial-back on the AMS that stalled my train builds...

Welcome Matthew. Looking forward to see the transformation to'Swan' when you finish.

Great work there so far Tom. We can be our own worse enemies when we take on projects like this. I have my fair share of a "styrene strip too far" builds. Keen as mustard to start, but the bell curve hits hard. Will love to see you finish this one.

Build is nearly done on the Renault. Went through the trouble of replacing the kit springs. From this,

To this,

Only for me to realize I made the springs too big and the running gear wouldn't fit. Oh well, scrunched them up a bit and trimmed the square tubes and made it work.

Here she is, dry fit together

Lots of painting now

The joys of scratch building James. A lot of the time you have to rebuild when you try test fitting. Really makes a difference here though doesn't it?

So, I've decided on a total change of direction for this campaign. Many months ago I did the ultimate FUBAR, for some insane reason, without thinking or realising, I base coated a Chally 1 I had been doing (was going to be my old wagon in Germany in the late 80's).... In satin black instead of the Matt black primer I thought the can was... I cried so much lol... Anyhows, I am going to try and salvage it if I can. Below is the sorry state it's in at the moment.

If the new base coat works, it will be standard UK NATO cam of black and green, my old C/S 42, and then detailing and weathering.... Fingers crossed.

Yea the kit 'springs' were terrible and had to be replaced, so even my crooked attempt was better. Trimming them wasn't a big deal either, most of that area can barely be seen so it's not a big deal. Hope to get the tank fully primed this weekend.

Certainly looks salvageable John. Looking forward to seeing it done.

Great to see so many varied models in the line up to be finished this year guys.

Tom, that Super 48 is looking great, it looks like a heap of work has already gone into it, the end result will be worth the last push.
James, neat little Renault you have put together, looks great.
And thanks Peter, I have got the new base coat on and it took pretty well overall.

I need to sand back a few areas as there was a bit of crackling, but I'm happy how it turned out.
Just so everyone is aware, I am posting pics of this Chally in my Golden memories campaign as well. It isn't included in that campaign, it's for info and updates as it played a big part in my armoured life in West Germany when I was stationed over there, and it will be finished as my wagon I was in, C/S 42, C Sqn, The Blues and Royals.

Count me in with this. Its been sat on the shelf for a couple of years in this condition now. It's the Hobbyboss V-150 w/20mm Cannon. The idea was a Phillipine Marines version that sported a Berlin Brigade Camo pattern

Here are my start photos for Tamiya's 1/35 Ford GPA Jeep. I've actually put some paint on it since but not ready yet for an update photo. The Leopard 1A4 is on hold.

Welcome aboard Colin.

Nice save John.

Oooh. I love the GPA Gary. Nice to see you put this one up on the list.

I went a bit nuts building mine back in 2017 for the Jeeps build though. Etch and scratchbuilt parts... If it wasn't for the push of the build, I may not have finished then and it would still be on the shelf now!! (actually, I still need to get blue regn numbers and then weather it to be completely finished!!

Got some camo on the Renault. Going with a two scheme I found online.

Needs some touch-ups, mainly along those rear engine hatches. Lots of painting and masking on this one. Can't wait to get weathering.
