I am working on the Zvezda SU 122 I plan on building it with the supplied tree branch camo for red 908. I have been unable to come up with photos ofthe original vehicle. Any one have any photos they can share?

Thanks

Hi;

I have only seen maybe Six photo's showing the Su-122,
the Old Squadron book on War on the Eastern front, and the Old Tamiya publication were just the two that I remember.
The Tamiya magazine was A series of publications that were offered, they were all B/W and in Japanese only !!
The squadron series were called Squadron Colors and have been OOP for quite some time !

The Squadron book profilke got me interested in this paint scheme, oh so, many years ago and that is why I grabbed the opportunity to build this kit. Unfortunately it doesn't have period photos. Did the Tamiya catalog have period photos.? The only period photos I have are from a parade in Leningrad and Google mostly comes up with models.

Thanks

The images show some SU-122 passing through Narwa Gates, Leningrad enroute to the front.

Thank you Angel. Those are the ones I have . I would think, that somewhere there must be a photo of 908 that spurred all the profiles.

Hi;

Many Years ago; I started my first series of T-34s all based on the Tamiya series, the Su-122 had A profile of A Snow camo; vehicle with this camouflage in the instruction book ! I still have that Su-122 in my collection.

I almost did it with the Tamiya kit back when that was the only game in town. The Zvezda kit has the markings included, but I would love to have a pic. Here's a link to the box artworkL:

This may be a lame response but are you talking about the early version done by MiniArt?

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/miniart-35181-su-122-early-production--977239

I have definitely seen a WW2 photo of that su122 with its tree-branch camo, I distinctly remember it because I’d thought the scheme was from MiniArt’s imagination until then. Trouble is I cannot recall where I saw it, unless it’s actually in the MiniArt instruction sheet? All I can say is keep searching, it’s out there somewhere

Thanks Tim. I actually did find a shot yesterday . I had some photos of some tanks in that scheme at Lenigrad. Another one showed up and it is 908.

I noticed that the tracks looked nice and clean. They almost look like a kit set of track just sprayed steel.

Thanks Angel. i am a little slow sometimes There is a box on the rear plate over the transmission hatch with a pipe sticking out of it. Do you know if that is a smoke generator? if so does it deserve any sort of "special" attention while weathering?

The weathering/ chipping is very light or almost nonexistent I wonder if this was a propaganda shot,

Dave,

The box is not a smoke generator, but a "Печь Танковая Типовая"- Standard Tank Heater(STH):

Its purpose was to keep the engine-transmission compartment warm during cold nights.
It burned wood or diesel fuel and saw a widespread use in the winter of 1942/1943.
The STH was made obsolete by the engine preheater, installed on all V-2 tank engines from 1943 onwards.

Standard procedure for use of STH- crew digs a shallow trench, the STH is placed in it and lighted, the SPG/Tank is parked over the trench so that the engine-transmission comptartment is above the STH, then the SPG/Tank is covered by a canvas.Two examples:

STH fixtures were present on all SU-122 Mk.2(like Zvezda's kit), but obviously, the STH was only issued and used during cold seasons.

I would do the box rusty and sooty
