"New" doesn't necessarily translate to "improved" or "better".

Hi Guys,

Let's see if I can explain this without screwing it up. The current site is old code and old servers. It has been in need of updating for a long time and Jim has started to do so.

You will now be able to load photos directly into a post - finally!

The old sites will be archived and available.

Welcome to KitMaker Network forums. This is where all our forum based discussions happen outside of our normal ‘magazine’ type content (news, reviews, features, etc.). Of course you are free to post any scale modeling related topics here. We hope you enjoy the new image upload capability of this new platform. We are sorry to have to leave the old site behind, but it’s getting pretty old and sadly it’s time. Enjoy!

Basically as Fred said. Jim does go into a lot more of the reasons why and issues these old sites had. Initially I was a bit sceptical but I have registered on the new forums and they are a massive leap forward in a great many ways.

Biggest thing for me was you can now upload pics direct from a phone with none of the messing around, and also up to 4mb in size. The new formats look a look crisper and up to date in how they are presented. it also takes you direct to the last post when you look at a topic/forum.

I am sure it will take a while for everyone to get used to how it works compared to these older forums, I know it will take me a while to get t grips with it, but I think the pros will far outweigh the cons ... it will just take time.

Yes, as said these will be phased out sooner or later. And the new forum is *much* better, at first it looks very different and may take a bit to get used, but I am sure it will be worth.

Hi all, some months ago when things started getting flaky our publisher Jim pointed out that the current ancient code, software, and servers have reached the end of the road. Whether we like it or not they have become a "dinosaur" system, and sooner rather than later simply won't operate because the rest of the internet has evolved and moved on.

To future-proof our Kitmaker community he has searched through what's available in terms of "modern" software platforms and servers, and has done what he can to customise them to replicate as much of the existing functionality as possible. But some things can't be replicated, while some new tools and opportunities have opened up. These existing forums will be closed and fossilised for use as a reference library when the big switch-over finally comes. Apparently it just isn't possible to squirt the existing topics, reviews, galleries etc across into the new set-up so we will be effectively starting fresh. I just hope the change comes AFTER all the current Campaigns have wrapped up!

As Jim pointed out, you will need to create new accounts in the new Forums and Mag sites, so if you want to keep your existing user IDs you'd best get over there and set them up before anyone else bags that great username you've enjoyed all these years!

Change doesn't have to be "good" or "bad" - sometimes "necessary" is enough...

Really not that hard to get back up to speed on the new forums. I even was able to use the same avatar! Please consider helping Jim at Armorama out with perhaps a little monthly contribution to help with expenses. Jim, and the others here, have put in many hours to advance the hobby and I am thankful. See you over in the new format!
All the best- Stuart

How do we actually access the new forum?
Is there a link anywhere?

I've registered to the new forum yesterday with my old nick and avatar and I believe it will become also our beloved Kitmaker Forum as this one is, no matter if you build armor, aircraft, cars, ships or something else. It just needs time to sort everything out there. And for sure everyone's posting counter starts at zero again. Though I haven't seen any counter at my posts yet.

The only problem I have right now is, that I can embed only 1 photo per post. I hope this problem will be solved sooner than later. After that I will copy my current build blogs to the new forum because I also think that this forum will be shut down in the future and no more postings will be possible.

That end date should be widely announced by Jim and the editors so that everyone can finish his campaign builds in time. Sadly all my campaign ribbons I have earned so hard (about 30) won't move with me, I believe. Is that correct?

Happy modelling!

Same here, Anthony, 11 years down the drain. But the good thing is we'll all meet at the other side ....

Will the new site automatically sign me in when I click on "Sign In", as it does now, without me having to enter my user name/password each time?

I dunno, I set up something, sent a test message to see if it worked, but can’t find it, seems really complicated, and can’t tell what button to press to send. This old Luddite is going to have some problems I think..... is there a tutorial someplace?

As I understand it, threads will be one-pager?!

If so, have fun with long threads.

I like the existing forums.
I hate change.
I'm sure after awhile I will get use to the new forums and like them just as much.

I believe the key thing has been stated - the existing forums will get archived and remain available. There is some awesome content on these forums that I'd hate to lose access to.

Yikes! During the course of trying to get logged in to the "new forums" page I came across an introduction forum/post but now that I've finally gotten an account on the new forums I can't find the intro posts. Crazy man crazy. I hate to show how dense I am but I'm not sure if I get exactly how the "new" system is gonna work but I'll keep checking and see how things go. I'm not a huge fan of changing things I'm familiar with but I realize that this upgrade will be beneficial in the long run. If I ever find that intro forum I'll do it proper and share some insight on this joker and his random posts.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been giving the new forum a go and after some initial hiccups (mostly user error), I’m really beginning to like it very much. In comparison to when I first joined KitMaker, the new version is a more user-friendly experience. ... Image uploading from several devices I’ve tested is such a breeze!

Happy to be onboard!

Hey All,

The new sign up thingy is not working for me.
Did as was instucted but still can't get the activation email
to finish signing up to the new forums etc.
Is it just me, or are others having problems?
