Calling all Sherman Gurus. I have been recently made aware of some Shermans in the Big Deuce having red left(port) and green right (starboard) tail light lenses. Anyone out there who can shed some light on this or direct me toward a good available reference? "Tanks". Out here.

Standard issue on U.S. made vehicles from '42 I believe.

Yep, the standard issue set appeared on US made vehicles.
Just remember in 1/35 scale the right one, and bottom ones would appear as simple dark (black) slots. They were only visible to the following drivers, and only over certain distance.

Hey Dave and 'freak
In the diagram of the right top oval light, what is the remaining colour of the oval, if it is a lens at all?
Otherwise they are a great reference thanks

Maybe these will help:

The first two are on a M4A3(76)HVSS built in 1944. The third pic is from a M4A2(76)HVSS built in 1945.

Thanks Chris!
Both being off the same tank, is the right side light deliberately crooked to align with the hull angle, as opposed to the left which is square with the horizontal?

:-) :-) Chris always amazes me with the photos... :-) :-)
I'll take an old mans guess, since the tank is just a little older than me, and believe me, one side is a little crooked on me also........maybe 60 years, and a few thousand modellers climbing over it...... :-) :-) :-)

Brad,
Due to your question, I looked at the pics again and realized that I posted and labelled them incorrectly!!! I have now added a third pic. The first two are on a M4A3(76)HVSS while the third one is on the A2. I suspect the crooked angle is just part of the vehicles being old. The taillights aren't exactly the most durable items back there.
