Hi Guys,

Is there a specific paint mix/combination if were to attain the panzer red-oxide primer color using Tamiya paint. I read that some use the Tamiya Hull red. I'm just not sure if I should use it as is or do I need to mix it with another shade, e.g. white. BTW, can anyone post a pic or direct me to a link for an actual red-oxide primer color?

I dont know if I am right but I think it looks reasonably close when I add 40% of Red Brown, german camo to Hull Red. It sort of matches what I used to use in the army, then if you weather it and add filters it looks pretty good.

Give it a go and others may have their own preferences.

I forgot to mention that in my initial try, I mixed Tamiya hull red + buff and I did not like the result. Here is a sample pic of the color result (look at the clamp/bracket for the cleaning rod)

What about Tamiya Flat red brown (XF-64)? Looks a tad purple tho

I used the hull red for my King Tiger but mixed with a bit of NATO brown (XF-67?) and I'm happy with the results. Looks much like the colour plates/pics I've based the camouflage scheme on.



So I'd say yes...

how about humbrol 160 (german cam matt) or 113 (rust) or a mixture of both worth a look perhaps

In as much as I want to, I cant seem to find a store here carrying Humbrol paints... . I'll also try your mix Martin.

PvtParts: While looking at the pic you posted, I remembered that I used a Bondo glazing putty that has a similar color...

How about this color...I mixed tamiya red-brown (xf64) + flat red (xf7).

Here is the result -- btw, the inset photo is what I also found in the internet as red-oxide primer color...
