Hi guys

I have spoken with Chris Baxter of Baxmods today. He has finished a 1/35 Scale Casspir and Buffel which for which he will take orders at nationals. The price is in the region of R350.

He has also completed the rest of the Ratels and the Ratel 1/72 range now includes the 20, 90, command, 81 and ZT 3. The last three can be preordered at the nationals as the models are done but he still needs to do the drawings. Apart from the ratels there is a samil 20, a Mfezi ambulance, buffel and a Casspir (not his model but he can get it for you). These kits go for in the region of R180.

He plans to start work on the Rooikatte (105mm and 76mm) as soon as the ratels are done, with the G5 and G6 following.

The Olifant is also being done by another guy, but Chris said he can get it for those that are intersted in it. The olifant will be in avialble in the mk1, mk2 and TTD configuration.

For the aeromodellers he is planning to take along a few kits of his 1/72 scale Oryx to the nationals, so get those checkbooks ready.

Just another reason to get to nationals. Now I know the 1/72 scale stuff is small but damn it I will be first in line to order the Ratel range. At last some SADF stuff.

It's about time.... Chris has been working on the 1/35 Casspir for a good few months now.... Hope he's taking orders on Friday night...

I saw these last month, and they are very neat. Of course they all use the common chassis, which is one of the reasons why he did the rest of the range while he had momentum.

Knowing Chris and Murray these will be in 1/72... a pity really... I know a tonne of guys that want that G5 and G6 in 1/35.... and of course Aerographix doesn't appear to be doing the Rooikat in 1/35 any more, so there is a market gap there...

The Oli is being done by John Weidemann. I knew about the MkI, but not the rest. Mind you, the differences are minor...

Yeah, but still mainly braille scale.... how about in a real scale? :-) :-)

I spoke to alot of guys yesterday trying to find SADF kit. Aerograpfix still does the Rooikat, G5 and G6 in 1/35 scale but these are display models for sales men and are made of 2 or 3 parts in the case of the G5 and G6.

I am trying to organise a visit to their factory next week and once that is done I will report back on the qaulity.

John Weideman is working on the Olifant Mk 2 which he plans to have done by nationals. He told me he will start casting and calculating the price after nationals so guys be patient. Nice thing is that is a one pice kit so no converions. He spend almost 120 hours on it so it might be worth the wait.

The next thing on his list is the TTD. He is also working on a 1/48 scale Rooivalk and his 1/72 Rooivalk is ready.

Apparently Nick Butler still does the Olifant Mk1 conversion for the tamiya kit, but this I haven't been able to confirm. Will keep you guys updated

Hi Theunis,

Thanks for the update.

Please keep us informed about Aerographix. There has been much interest from foreign shores about their kits, but apparently they don't appear to like responding to emails...

I had hear rumours of JW's 1/48 Rooivalk, but I think the 1/72 has been out a while. He also has some kits for Cheetah's etc.

I'm curious about Butler's MkI conversion... when I contacted Red Carpet, the response I got was that the molds had been retired - and that all parties involved in the production of the kit had parted ways.

I was at the Castle on Thuesday and saw a convertion a buddy of the modeler who does the models in the museum has done. Apparently they are also planning to do some molds. So if red carpet does not pan we might just have to wait a while.

On a totally different subject. I would like to give a beer to Pierre of Victors Logistics. I phoned him this afternoon to find out if he had drawings of the Ratels (I am planning to start scratch building some using some Aerografix compants such as the wheels). He was most helpful and even invited me to visit them some time to have a look at their references which apparently fills a few boxes. I think they know more about the SADF's kit than the army.

So here goes: To Pierre!!!!!

I was pestering poor Chris about the G6 at the last IPMS meeting... He must think I'm a loony with a strange accent and even stranger sense of humour..

Bleh at last I have a chance to post some pics. Had to resize them in photoshop so the qaulity is down. Enjoy these. As soon as I have my camera again I will take some pics of the unbuilt kits for you guys to salivate over.
