My 2˘ on bad trader alerts. I am a confessed kit horder/accumulator. I buy and sell on eBay, as well as buy, sell and trade on various model sites. In addition, I am the host/moderator of this forum. I appreciate bad/good trader alerts.

During the last big trade scandal, I was contacted by multiple people with similar stories of trades gone unfulfulled. The messages were so similar that at first, I thought the person had sent me multiple messages by mistake. That incident turned up well over a dozen modelers who were cheated out of money, time and kits worth thousands of dollars.

This message is doing the same thing. It is drawing several members out who thought they were the only ones who were having a problem. While the monies here are relatively small, it shows a pattern where individuals first thought were just isolated incidents.

I do not know the particulars, but if there are more than a handful of people with the same or similar bad trader stories with the same person, there is probably a good reason to be careful when dealing with that person in the near future.

This is a little more than airing dirty laundry. It is a necessary evil to insure the community can buy, sell and trade with confidence. The responses alone show that it is bigger than just a bad trade between two individuals and that it does effect other site members. I don't see a smear campaign, I see someone trying to warn our modeling community.

Hi

I agree this isn't a smear campaign it is more of a problem solver.

Seems I think(?) on this posting thread that Nine peoples problems need to be solved from this person.

Thanks

Guys,

I got an email from Roy Chow that said someone here at Model Geek suggested sending copies of emails regarding Mike Kalb trades. I got no idea who or where to send the stuff so I'm including it here. If someone does send our stuff to the cops, let me know, if more data is needed.

Regards,

L Witter

Below are emails relative to a trade between Mike Kalb and myself. Total value of the stuff I sent him is about $100.00 US depending on which eBay listing you check. I post them in hope that someone will forward everyone’s list to the proper authorities. My plan is to pay Mike a visit the last week in June during a fishing trip.

BAD JUJU!!!

I posted this post to bring out the truth in this guy. Little did I know this post would go this far. Or that B.S would be added to it. I am truely embarrassed to the fact that so many people have read this post. I have found truth in a old saying.(IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY TO SOMEONE. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT UNLESS SPOKEN TO FIRST!) This post is a prime example why. While I see the truth has come out in this post it has not done any good on my reputation as a Plastic ARMOR Modeling dealer. But sometimes the truth hurts in many ways. If at all possible I would like to see the post dropped as a sticky. I have requested this post be deleted and a new post started with just the facts. If all of you notice I do very lil posting in here due to situations like this, More drama and not enough info. I came in here to talk about the facts I had seen one a particular trade person and others had to just step in with both feet and speak their peace in some shape form of manner that didnt even pertain to the subject matter. Why I have no clue..maybe to fill important or maybe they just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. What ever the reason, it added confusion to something very important. What am I trying to say. Dont post on a thread that doesnt involve you. Dont post negative thoughts on any thread due to ppl are not interested in hearing garbage. I could be wrong but ppl are here to read information thats to their benifit. If they want a argument (well most have wives and girlfriends that can givem that). Especially when it comes to high dollar models or toys.

I would love to see this thread be resolved and fast , but to those at armorama please kill this thread soon. Its not making me feel good in any way all across the board.

It's not bad juju - it turned out to be the truth.

Had I not found YOUR post, I'd have gone on thinking I was the only one that got hosed by Mike.

Turned out MANY of us got hosed, and not just here at A'rama, but over at Tracklink, H'scale, Mil Modeling, and who knows how many other model boards this creep has haunted.

As we seen in the previous threads, ol' Mike can be a real e-mail charmer - all the while laughing at all of us that he has taken advantage of. My loss was small potatoes compared to what others have lost to this rat - but last I Iooked - DML kits, Aber etch, and Atak zimm were not free, nor was the postage.

This post should remain, so that in the future, traders can cross-ref the address of the potential trader with weasel Mike's address.

Oh, and he doesn't steal just armor kits either...

http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=50923&hl=Kalb

And note his Cincy address posted at ARC. He has a "USA" location at PlanetArmor.

My point is that the deal was/is between you and Mike Kalb and Ed and Mike Kalb. No one else here on the site. As far as I can tell it wasn't made here on this site either. So what does it have to do with this site? It sounds like a private matter to me. Also looks like you are attacking the guy after only 4 days, that sounds pretty quick. His emails look pretty normal and draw no caution flags as I read them either.

Well Gino lets see if you can understand this as I do? I may be wrong but whenb someone does not hold up their end of a trade that is theft? Am I correct? So telling folks that you were ripped off is a good way to protect others from the same experiance is it not? By ignoring the crooks in the hobby you encourage their crooked habits, do you not? So while it may seem of no importance to you, it is of importance to others. Please try to understand that point.
Cheers

seems like the american thing to do is take a tour bus to the destinaton in question, and repo all the kits in question.

Thats how I handle people who stiff me on the car parts I trade.

make sure you take a mountie or two with you

Also, the how to file portion of the web site has excellent tips on what can be used as evidence, and explain to send copies only if you are asekd to send someone said evidence.

I stickied this topic because if it keeps just one more person from being cheated out of a model kit, then it has done its job. It is an added benefit if the shame of airing dirty laundry prevents others from attempting similar schemes.

Hopefully, he will either fulfill the deals or return the kits. Unfortunately, most bad traders do not do either. They just lay low and try again.

He's been busy creating quite a reputation on other websites as well: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?s=b276914e99b0bb409323a6dc27b9e392&showtopic=50923&pid=1072878&st=0&#entry1072878

Never ceases to amaze me how these guys continue to get away with this. If I'm reading the arc forum dates correctly Dave Garcia, first posted this back on Apr 8 2005, at 06:47 PM, and no one responded until May 26 2007, at 06:37 AM. That's OVER TWO YEARS. Makes me wonder if all the deals went south or was it just selective stealing.

I did file a report with this group and they were VERY helpful and interested. I would reecommend that we all file one. They seemed quite interested in pursuing this matter. The gentleman I spoke with made it plain- "theft is theft, no matter what the items"...very nice to hear.
I did track down the apts that he used- Rockwood apts in Canada, phone number 905-624-9024, he has since vacated them I was told...
Please everyone burned file with the Canadian authorities.

I filed an on-line complaint about a week ago. Glad to see others doing the same. In my complaint, I gave both his Mississauga and Cincinnati addresses. I haven't heard anything since.

Let us know if you nail any petty thieves. I am wiser now to the less than honest people who go around trying to destroy the trust that we strive to build on this site. Personally, I am going to stay with the fellow who is avoiding me until he makes good on his agreement with me.

Huh, wish I had seen this earlier...I got screwed too though I'm hardly out anything.

I got PM from"Micahel9" that he had an Accurate Armour turret that he didn't need that he would send. I asked what he was in to, what he'd take in trade. He suggested resin figures, of which i didn't have any, but we setteled on some 3rd Generation Dragon figures of which I pulled the Tiger crewman out of my Late Dragon Tiger I kit plus a few other items. I packaged everything up and put it in the mail as he said he did as well. Well a month later (this all began late April), I have nothing and he doesn't reply back to PMs.

The odd thing about all of this is that he played off a recent posting and I made some assumptions. I didn't have it out anywhere that I was looking for a turret of any kind, this PM just dropped in. I did have a post out regardingt Panzer Creations' T-72MZC4 and how the turret was junk, so I made some very tenous connections and never questioned him about it which I should have I suppose. So buyer or trader beware, Michael9 is garbage!

I must admit I've "cut to the chase" on this post and don't even know where this is located inasmuch as I put "Michael9" into the search engine as I was starting to wonder where the promised item was. That search led here.

I must say...I have heard of people scamming for money, credit cards etc..but never in my life have I EVER seen anyone scam someone out of a tank kit lol. I know this matter isn't funny and I have been gotten in a similar incident a few years ago. Only mine was old Super Nintendo RPG's that are rare. That name that guy gave..Eh I mean prick gave probably isn't even his real name .And furthermore probably isn't his real given address. People like this Mike Kalb guy..if again that is his real name should have his nuts ripped off.

Guys...

If thats his eBay account, and you see kits that you either sent him, or are 'owed' , report him for selling items that are not his. If eBay asks for references, reference your filed 'recol' report and possibly even this thread. Also include copies of any any e-mails/PMs and receipts you have.

If you get lucky, they may report his NEW location to the authorities, and sieze his eBay and PayPal accounts. In theory, you can submit a query to eBay about his current ID data, and if its invalid, they can suspend his account bending revision of the address.

And thanks for the heads up... I'd seen this ID around on other sites and think I went to negotiate as well, but gave up after too much back-&-forth went on. Guess I was one of the lucky ones that 'got away'...

Nice catch Tankrat.

(and sadly, I'm in Ottawa, a bit far to go-a-visitin'...)

edit: Sadly, I think he just sold off the SF3D / MaK items...
