The Ships at ScaleModelWorld 2006

  • Ships_ScaleModelWorld2007-121
models, stands and... modelers!

This was the first time I attended Scale Model World, at Telford, England (actually very near to Wales!).
The show is massive, got the chance to see excellent level of models (so many that at some point you get a overdose of models and suddently you are watching, but not looking), knew some of the manufacturers and sellers (Caroline and John Snyder, Peter Platner, Jacques Druel pop my mind) and a lot of the guys that you are used to see their works on the web (Jim Baumann, Guido Hopp, Frank Ilse and many others which I also admire and respect).

I can say that what surprised me more was the sense of community that, for me, a first timer, was able to feel and enjoy - it looked like we were pals for more than a decade!!

Also interesting was the chance to meet the Boss and some other UK members (Jim Starkweather, Mal Mayfield (Holdfast - A real gentleman and a good host), Vinnie Brannigan (our Teacher) amongst other members (like Courtney (callsign; Yoghurt) the 9 year girl that to my knowledge is the younger modeler at KitMaker.net!!!)

It was a good chance to get some new models, books, tools and paints and also the possibilty to get second hand books and models, some of them OOP for a good price! All you needed was the hability to stay in focus, or your wallet would notice right away when you got just too happy ;)

Well enough blah-blah, and let's see some more images of the event, which I reccommend to any one to attend next year - I will!
Enjoy....

Gad that's some great work on display. Thanks VERY much for sharing. I couldn't even ID all those ships, let alone what kits they might have been made from. Call me biased but I really think that well made ships blow away tanks or planes on display like this.

Great Job, Rui! Man, I really wish I could have experienced this show first hand (alas, real life tends to get in the way at times! ) and had the chance to meet and talk to you and the others from KitMaker. . .someday! Thanks for the pics, Skip, stunning works on display, for sure!!! ~G.

Hi Rui Great feature thanks for the effort. As an aside I am not sure who is the youngest member of kitmaker.net but I know a member of Armorama callsign "mattyboy" is only 7 years old and makes 1/72 German armour and has recently graduated to 1/35 scale. Regards Sean
