Centurion Shot-Kal

  • DSC013191
The kit is a AFV Club IDF Shot Kal which is basically a Centurion Mk5. I built the kit right out of the box adding a scratch mantlet cover which I have since discovered to be the wrong one. It is made out of tissue paper and lead foil. I painted it using Tamiya paints(base coats) Kaki and Dark Yellow. The tracks are the kit tracks painted with Model Masters Exhaust and dry brushed with silver. The rust is rust colored pastel powder suspended in alcohol. When the alcohol dries the powder is left behind in corner and the like. I added bed rolls from my spares box. The turret bustle is loaded with stuff from the spares box like jerry cans, tools, cable reel, and a scratch tarp. The tank is weathered with oil washes(Mars Black & Burnt Sienna) and pigments(powder and alcohol again) after doing some panel shading with Tamyia Kaki with a few drops of Dark Yellow added to lighten it.

Great build ... enjoyed it a lot. But a Shot Kal is in no way "basically a MkV" - different engine deck, rear end, exhausts, guards, stowage bins, and I could go on. You also need to eradicate those leads and mounts for the smoke dischargers on the turret. I have been looking at this kit and you ahve inspired me to go out and get one!

I like it as well, although I have never seen the fenders painted black like that. I think that's usually for later models with the rubber fender extensions.

Nice work. Just finishing mine now. Nice kit. I was also wondering about the conduit on the turret side, but I found many pics. of the Shot with it intact. So, I left mine in place too. I guess they were getting ready to mod. it with smoke launchers when war broke out. Troy
