Sherman M4A4

The base kit is the M4A4 Sherman from dragon. This kit has been reboxed with the new and correct upper and lower hull from Dragons latest firefly. I've used a lot of after mark sets to complete this model. For a start I've replaced the turret with a resin turret from Trakz. The boggies were replaced with the VVSS set from AFV club but I still used the Dragon wheels and the 3 bolts on the bogies. The tracks were from Modelkasten and were the most challenging work of this project. I’ve also added some AFV club duckbills for a finish touch.

The upper hull was getting some extra details as well. Some PE parts form ABER. The small hatches were replaces by resin parts from Tank Work Shop. The tools came from Formations and the towing cable and .30 cal barrels are from EurekaXXL. Some small scratchwork has been done to the armor plates by the hatches.

For painting I used Tamiya acrylics. XF-61 Dark green for a preshade. After drying I highlighted it with XF-21 Sky. After the highlights I nuanced the color differences with a mixture of XF-21 Sky and XF-31 J.A. Green. to get the final color. I’ve used the Utracast decals because I wanted to build a Canadian Sherman V. The weathering has been done with MIG Filters green and grey. A dark wash of black and brown was used for the deep parts. The final touches has been done with MIG pigments Sand, Allied fading and Europe dust. The stowage is a mixture of Plusmodels with a camo net from Verlinden. The oil can and bucket (from PE) are form PlusModel as well.
