Airborne Jeeps

  • move
These are my representation of some of the 500 plus Jeeps glidered in at Arnhem in 1944 during Operation Market Garden.. They were based on the Tamiya Willis Jeep kit and I used 3 Resicast conversion sets, the Signals Jeep set , RASC Jeep set and RA AT Jeep set plus some scratch building to make the half dozen vehicles. Additional figures and accessories are from Resicast with a couple of converted Tamiya Figures and one form Ultracast.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Nice work but I would say this....Are they are to be displayed as in the bitter cold of winter ? Otherwise it would not be such a good idea to stow gear in front of the radiators...................Al

Hi Koen and Alfred, Thanks for looking in folks. Alfred, yes they were prone to over heating, especially those carrying the spare tyre on the front. Live and learn I suppose Their intended distance to target was short, but the layout is correct with both the historical pictures and wartime spec. Cheers Al

Hey Al, Nice job all round on your Arnhem project. The jeeps, gear and figures look brilliant !! I love the flattened tires, are they plastic ones from the kit, resin replacements or a combination of both?? Cheers jjumbo

Hi John and Ed, Thanks for looking in folks. John, the tyres are form a Resicast set of flat tyres and burnt out rims. Thje set also comes with a set of positionable steering. Hi ed, Not all the jeeps had the windowscreens removed. There are a couple of good pics on Page 190 of Arnhem Then and Now showing Major Oliver's Jeep unloading from a Horsa with the screen in place, which is what I based that vehicle on. Modifications were made by the REME at individual unit level, so whiilst there was a set specification for the conversions there was also great variety in what actually got changed. Cheers Al

Very nice job Alan. I have a couple of those conversions as well and someday I'd like to actually build one...
