Zero Hour!

This is Hasegawas A6M2B in the markings of Yoshiro Hashiguchi (ace 10+). I used Eduards PE set and Masks for this kit. I decided late to add the flaps. As the PE was a sample too, I thought I should use as much as possible even though the flaps were mostly up on the ground. In Telford last year I bought the Wolfpack wing tips just for the cool look - another late surgery for the wing. This unit was land based at that time and probably never had the wing tips up. I deviated from the instructions and built in the tail hook cover instead of the hook. Else it is pretty standard build.

About Steffen Arndt (alpha_tango)
FROM: , GERMANY

I was born in 1974 and started modelling in the 80ies. The first models I remember are a MiG 21 F-13, Saab Draken (both 1/100) and the Tu-2 (72) all from the east German producer Plastikart. during my first years I built all kind of models mainly 1/72 and 1/100. Beside the mentioned Plasticart kits ...

Many thanks, Thorsten! I used XF-76. looks good to me and is a little more "greenish" than XF12. I used XF12 on my Ki.10 as it looked pretty close to the army grey to my eye. As for your remark: I was not talking of design (this is a type 21) but of use. The unit was based on (is)land not on a carrier, thus there is little (no) chance they ever folded up the tips. Esp. together with flaps down ... but i wanted to build it this way and thus it is most probably not correct, but i like it all the best Steffen

Love it ! I'm currently finishing my 1/72 Airfix Zero in overall Ame-Iro too. Do you have any pictures with the Antenna wire added? I'm having hard time finding how to connect it and where. Cheers,Sven.

Thanks Sven! I left the wire off. I know it is shown on the picture of this machin, but this only shows teh tail and not the mast. So I have no idea where th wire is attached there (probably top) all the best Steffen

There's a great picture showing how it attaches on this page.

Hi Steffen, Excellent work indeed! I like the look of the aircraft with folded wingtips and the Eduard display base looks very realistic too. I hope to see it in Siegen... Jean-Luc

Oh, I see, so it's the same as with the land based Hellcats. I will give this new Tamiya colour a chance. It's in their new smaller glasses, right? Half size but not half price, so to say .... @Jean-Luc Are you coming to Thionville in May? I'll be there for the first time. Torsten

Thank you Jean-Luc! You mean I shall bring the carrier deck too? (of course I will show all new models) @ Thosten: yep, the new cups only slightly cheaper than the larger bottles. all the best Steffen

Hi again, @Torsten: yes I'll be in Thionville. @Steffen: It would be a shame not to bring the carrier deck as well... Jean-Luc

Hmm, o.k., I will carry it with me, but you know it is not small (i.e. will eat up some display space). all the best Steffen

Steffen, Really great job of building this reisen. The Sakae 12 looks great and the cockpit is stunning! The debate about color can be somewhat tabled by whether is Zero was built by Mitsubishi or Nakajima. IIRC, Nakajima A6Ms were greener. Here is an example (even with the antennae mast) http://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=4501&page=2
