The worst injection kit I've ever encountered. But, being too cheap to buy the Resicast version, I had to go with this one. Most of the parts on the sprue had a membrane of flash or had to be made from scratch.

The list of modifications include;

  • MV Lenses added to Royal Model headlights. The kit lights were too big and thick
  • New dash panel made from Evergreen styrene with Fingerprint Designs dials
  • New brake lever made from Evergreen (7 pieces)
  • Seat cushion made from ApoxieSculpt with a Grandt Line button in the center. I burnished both seats with a Q-tip to represent worn leather
  • New muffler and tailpipe made from Evergreen
  • 'Wooden' floorboards with rivets made from Evergreen. I textured them with a coarse file. I painted the, a wood color, clear coated them, painted them Faded OD and then I carefully started to remove the OD to represent boots scuffing up the paint
  • Wheels were originally 2 parts; the wheel and the hub. I added 42 parts to each wheel which included a 3 piece hub and 12 bolts and 24 (front and back) bits to each spoke on each wheel. I also added a small hub carrier, valve stem and an internal piece in the hub to assist with alignment
  • I detailed the suspension with various nuts, bolts and bits to give a more realistic appearance
  • The Maxim is from Plus Model and is one of the nicest MGs I've ever seen. I added a water hose from Detail Master. The stand for the MG was made from Evergreen tube and detailed with punch bits
  • The box for the water cans is brass and soldered together. It came from the spares box
  • The packages and axe are from Verlinden and the cup is from Historex
  • The box and shovel on the ground are from Italeri
  • I used the kit bench seat in the back and added nails to the top of it with .005 punches using my Schatton punch set
  • I notched the underside of the tub to the chassis with angle styrene to ensure a square fit on the finished model
  • The metal straps that hold on the tub body were filed off of the original kit parts and replaced with Evergreen strip and Grandt Line and punch details
  • A new hand crank was fashioned from copper rod
  • I added a new radiator cap from thick styrene punches
  • The smaller lights in the front and rear were tidied up with styrene punches, MV Lenses and lots of sanding and putty
  • The decals came from the spares box and I buried them under clear gloss and sanded away the edges before weathering with oil paints
  • The figure is from The Bodi and is very nicely cast. He comes with the umbrella. He sits atop a random oil drum
  • I painted the vehicle dark brown first, then clear coated it with Ditzler Duracryl, then painted it Faded OD by Model Master. After a day, I wetted the paint with odourless mineral spirits and then I removed paint in a random fashion with toothpicks and brushes to represent scratches and wear

Nice job George. I am happy that I have the resicast version as well as the RPM.

After looking through the list of Gofor Jobs you may have been better off just buying plastic and starting from scratch. Very nice job on the finish.
