The Rescue

  • move
This diorama represents a scene from the early stages of the first Chechen War. The wounded crew of a 2s1 disabled by a light mine are helped to safety while under cover of an advancing T80. Russia suffered heavy losses in men and material, during this conflict, with the T80b receiving particularly bad, but somewhat unfair criticism.

Both of the Trumpeter kits were built out the box with the exception of a set of Friulmodel tracks used on the 2s1. The kit tracks are ok, but you would need the patience of a saint to assemble them. The FriulmodelEvolution and Corsar Rex.

Appreciate the kind comments. I used Mig paints light green khaki (pkhv-512) as a base on the 2s1. Although the color has been weathered with various shades of green, it is a great base color to work from.

Thanks Mark.

The mine sure was a big one to be able to do that to the 2S1 kit tracks! Or my eyes are badly wrong tonight ;-) But it's really good job.

yup, one half of the broken track has the chevrons facing the wrong way, otherwise a very nice build...good job!!

Ouch........ Well spotted. I must admit I didn't notice the error till you pointed it out. Goes to show just easy it is to make a basic mistake. Still scratching my head wondering how I missed it.

that's ok, I once managed to GLUE the two halves of an AFV CLub LVT track together with the chevrons facing each other....only realised I'd done it days later when it was way too late to rescue them...

Don't worry about it, unless you plan to add the dio in a contest. There, you will have to do some deep thinking on how-to fix. As for me, well, I'm the kind of guy who finds errors in movies, TV and as you've seen: forums/dioramas lol

Hi, Absolutely superb… really outstanding. One of the best of the best. All three elements, vehicles, figures, ground work extraordinary. Kip.
