Squadron Signal Publications have just announced two new books in two of their sections - one in thei company's 'Walk-Round' and the other 'In Action'.
The new books are:

SS12050 GERMAN ARMORED CARS IN ACTION (Soft Cover)

SS52050 GERMAN ARMORED CARS IN ACTION (Hard Cover)

Written and compiled by David Doyle. Germany began developing its heavy armored cars well before the outbreak of World War II. Germany's early six-wheel armored cars were based on 6x4 truck chassis, and their off-road mobility was limited. These vehicles soon gave way to an expanding series of eight-wheel drive/eight-wheel steer vehicles fitted with a variety of armament. In time these too were supplanted by even larger armored cars incorporating refinements based on lessons learned from the vehicles' field experience, such as heavier armor, armament, and an air-cooled engine. Packed with more than 220 period photographs, this book chronicles the development and deployment of Germany's six and eight-wheeled armored cars before and during WWII; 80 pages.

SS27027 JAGDPANZER 38 HETZER Walk Around (Soft Cover)

SS67027 JAGDPANZER 38 HETZER Walk Around (Hard Cover)

Authored by Hans-Heiri Stapfer. By the end of World War II, the Jagdpanzer 38 Hetzer was the Wehrmacht's most widely used tank destroyer. Armed with the formidable Rheinmetall-Borsig Pak 39 L/48 7.5cm anti-tank gun the Hetzer served on both the Western and Eastern fronts. More than 2,800 Jagdpanzer 38s were build in just over one year - from April 1944 through May 1945 - far more than any other WWII German tank destroyer. This groundbreaking volume features detailed photos of early, medium, and late Hetzer variants and contains the first-ever published wartime photos of the vehicle's interior. Pictures of Jagdpanzer 38 vehicles in Bulgarian and Swiss service appear here for the first time, and the SK-23 steam-powered recovery vehicle based on the Hetzer is also documented along with extensive coverage of the G 13, including the first-ever color photographs of that variant's interior. Illustrated with over 200 photographs, plus detailed line drawings, and color profiles; 80 pages.

Very interesting books and the softcover/hardcover choice is good for customers I think. The title "GERMAN ARMORED CARS IN ACTION" is perhaps not the best choice of words, as there were four wheeled armoured cars as well and they seem not to be covered in the book. Cheers, Christophe

I really don't like the hardcover editions of these books. They add too much to the cost and take up entirely too much book shelf space for the amount of content. Unfortunately now, I have to remeber to specify to my LHS to NOT get me the hardcover editions of any of these books that I special order. The last one I got ("MMD says it was the last copy in stock...") added considerable to the overall cost, but since it was a special order, I paid anyways. I guess it's a nice option to have available for some buyers, but I really hope that Squadron Signal doesn't switch over to hardcover or start making the softcovers "limited" availablity. The softcover editions are a pretty good value, but if they jack up the price by making only the hardcover editions available, they'll lose at least one customer - me.
