Rinaldi Studio Press is a new US publisher started by renowned armor modeler Michael Rinaldi. RSP is dedicated to bringing you a new style of scale modeling how-to books that focus on painting and weathering of scale models, including the artisitic elements. TANKART is the first series launched, and will focus on armor model finishes.
Rinaldi Studio Press is offering the first of at least three books called TANK ART Volume 1 WWII GERMAN ARMOR by Michael Rinaldi. Here is the information from Rinaldi Studio Press website.

There are a great many very good "how-to" books in today's world of Scale Modelling, but none has covered the "why's" as well as the "how-to's... a more rounded, artistic approach… until now. In TANKART, I focus on taking real-life observations of weathering effects, dissect and visualize how they occurred, and problem solve the best technique to replicate them in our world, the world of Scale Modelling. In this first volume, focusing on the popular subject of WWII German Armor, I will dive deep into my thoughts about why I do what I do, and the subtleties that give it life. Combined with my education in design, my never ending passion for learning and teaching, and my love of photography, I have strived to produce a book which focuses on the importance of telling the story of each vehicle; it's travels through urban landscapes, harsh deserts, or down muddy roads; it's battle scars and service life wear and tear. In short, telling the story of the vehicle from the time that it has left the factory, engaged the enemy, moved across the landscape, moved to a different theatre, survived to fight another day, and in some cases, ceased to function. To bring these thought processes to life requires a spectrum of techniques which are covered in great detail; from the Hairspray Technique to Oil Paint Rendering; techniques which can be combined in an endless amount of combinations to tell the story of your model, to make each model as unique as it's real-life counterpart. This book begins a series which will define my modelling and hopefully reach the many hobbyists searching for new ideas and inspiration to forever improve and achieve upon with their own work.

Each book is 9"x10" format, 228 pages long, printed on high-quality matte finish book stock paper, with a softcover. Each book features 3 how-to chapters on techniques that go into great detail to further assist you in learning and achieving success with them, followed by 8 individual project model chapters inside covering the wide variety of camo schemes available.

Our initial pre-order price is $37.95USD for September, full retail will be $44.95USD when it goes on sale in October.

Vol. 1 is available to ore-order NOW, and will begin shipping early Oct. 2012.

Vol. 2 WWII Allied & Modern Armor will be ready by late 2012. Not for sale yet.
Vol. 3 WWII German by early 2013. Not for sale yet.

In Vol. 1 WWII German Armor there are 3 dedicated how-to technique chapters, followed by 8 individual model project chapters, plus a special bonus figure painting chapter by master modeller Marijn van Gils. The text is presented in a unique dual-text format, the main text covers the technical how-to of each project, and the highlighted orange boxes contain the "why" of my thoughts as the author about my ideas and reasons behind each step of the process."

I don't consider $37.95 for a 228-page book expensive. That's about the cost of one second hand armor kit (including postage). It's more than a fair price in my opinion.

I agree Bill. A good reference book on a single subject runs me $40-50 so I'm not seeing the issue on price. This book is sounding like a unique approach on the subject, and a compliment to some of the other publications out there already. I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

The price of this book is about £25 give or take, an Osprey book is is between £10 - £12.50. Just look at the number of pages alone and then tell me this book is pricey, I think it is a good price to enter the book market with and once out buyers should be happy if it is as good as it looks.

Looking forward to Vol.2 on Allied and USA AFVs, since my main interest has always been USA armor, followed by Allied armor. I know that this must sound like a strange tale, but I've never built a single piece of German or Axis armor as yet. Joel

Just an update on TankArt volume 1: Rinaldi Studio Press has found a new publisher which slightly delayed the release of this publication until the end of November. The good news is Mike has found a way to decrease the price of the book to 29.95 USD + shipping. I'm unsure if this is the final price or the pre-order price, either way the price reduction should reflect on both.

Thank you so much for passing that information along! Yes, $29.95USD is the final retail price. I am very happy to have this new production system in place to initiate the change from book 1 onwards. There has been so much effort spent on the business side of the company, it has really started to pay dividends and make us more competitive, while it has caused some initial release delays, we are super excited to offer the book at this price point now. Future volumes and new products are also planned to be even greater value! Best, Mike LINK

Hi guys, We are pleased to announce that we have set a shipping date for TANKART Vol. 1 WWII German Armor with the first books leaving our printer on January 18, 2013. The week of Jan. 21-24 will see the majority of prepaid orders sent out as the books go from the printer to our mailing house to your house. Please note that due to the shipping variables of reaching the many different locations around the world, shipping will take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to arrive. Those customers that requested signed copies will see an additional time of approx. 5-7 days added to this estimate. Looking ahead, Vol. 2 WWII Allied Armor is well past the halfway point of layout production and will be the first book created with our new schedule. We are working towards producing a new title approximately every 3 months. I will make the Vol. 2 pre-order announcement once the files go to the printer, to avoid the long delays between taking orders and delivery. You have our sincere apologies for the extended timeframe it took to produce Vol. 1, but with the systems in place we are eyes forward and intent on making 2013 a banner year for the TANKART series and RSP. A reminder that book is 208 pages long, 8.5" x 9.5" with over 500 large format photos, dual text format of how and why I use techniques and modeling ideas each step of the way on each model. There are 2 dedicated technique chapters on using Hairspray Technique for chipping, and my new Oil Paint Rendering technique, and 5 model chapters averaging 30 pages each covering a unique camo scheme, and finally a special figure modeling bonus chapter authored by none other than Marijn van Gils where he explains he amazing painting techniques, and his philosophies.
