I like nostalgia but the Renwal armor kits had some strange proportional problems that make the Dragon M103 look accurate. I'll pass on the Renwal kits other than the 5 ton wrecker. Revell has repopped the handful of 1/40 kits that Revell retained the molds for. Sadly this is only the Lacrosse, M35 truck, 105mm howitzer, M56 Scorpion, M48 AVLB and Corporal missile. The 1/40 kits that went to Life-like thereafter went to Lindberg. The armor molds are supposedly so worn out that they're not worth saving. The last issue of the HAWK and LVT(A) that I saw were lumps swimming in a sea of flash. I missed the last re-issue of the Lacrosse, hopefuly I can catch it next time and NOT the Renwal one. That one is a bizarre mish-mosh of their 5 ton truck parts cut down to simulate a 2 1/2 ton suspension. I almost bought the Monogram 1/32 Pzkpfw IV but fortunately stopped myself after realizing how much was missing from the kit. There is a limit even to my nostalgia. And next up Monogram has the old Screamin' Mimi M4A1 coming back. It would be nice for the $20 if they just retooled the suspension and put in new tracks.

These kits were state-of-the-art in their day, but that day was 50 yrs. ago. Fortunately, a lot has changed!

Weren't the SNAP kits from the older Revell molds (or the other way around)? I bought the SNAP Jeep & trailer, and M20 armored car in the mid 60's and they were the same as the ones in Revell boxes. They were also MUCH cheaper than the Revell boxings. I've also seen the name Adams associated with Revell molds.
I remember that the Revell and Adams 1/40 scale military lines were contemporary. There were no duplications between the lines except both had 105mm Howitzer kits that were not identical (the Adams kit, latter reissued by Life-Like, had a sandbag emplacement, the Revell kit didn't). However, Adams did most, probably all, the Revell molds for the earlier kits. Snap kits were reissues. In the 1950's-60's I had the Revell: Jeep, Sherman Tank, 155mm gun and M4 Tractor, M20 Scout Car, Lacrosse Missile Truck, Dart and Little John Missile Set, Combat Team figure set, M56 Self Propelled Gun, M35 Truck and M48 Scissors Bridge. Adams: 105mm Howitzer, Hawk Missile Battery set. (Note Revell also had Hawk Battery, but I think it was later than and not identical to the Adams). ......and I'm sure a few other I don't rember.

Actually Revell and Adams joined forces and jointly released kits: LINK
The NS Savannah kit was eventually re-issued by Glencoe. The Revell/Adams kit is still available. For what it matters from an old Life-like instructions the whole 1/40th line: Atomic Cannon (Atomic Annie) M40 Self-propelled gun Infantry Combat group Jeep and trailer Aerial Missile helicopter HAWK transporter HAWK missile battery Long Tom and Tractor (Long Tom) LVT-4(A) (Whinnie the Whale) 120mm Anti- aircraft gun (Tillie the toiler) 105mm howitzer and crew (Annie Oakley) M20 Armored car Honest John laucher Also released under SNAP, ADAMS, ITC labels. Lindberg was recently asked about reissuing the Honest John and said the molds are so far gone wouldn't be worth it. Some were also issued by Revell and the Revell unique kits were: M35 truck 105 mm howitzer (in dug-out emplacement) Lacrosse Missile truck M56 Scorpion Missile set (real rarity, molds supposedly no longer exist) M48 AVLB Corporal missile and transporter (or just the missile by itself) Other than the M56 Scorpion all have been re-issued over the past 10-15 years. Any 1/32 ever armor released by Revell are from Renwal molds. I entered into this in the 1970's and have had all the Life-like reissues and the Revell re-issues. I still have the M35 and 105 howitzer in the stash and another built up 105 and M35 on the shelf.

Addendum: Revell also did a Nike Hercules in 1/40. The 1/32 Nike Ajax is a Renwal mold as is their 1/32 HAWK battery. Then there's Revell's 1/40 T-34/85 which must have inspired the designers of Dragon's Black Label series as how to depict a vehicle in plastic.

I wasn't referring specifically to the Savannah, but to the historical blurb which followed about Adams/Revell/et al.

Actually, the old RENWAL kits go back to the late 1950s and early 1960s. Even with the limited market that we had back then, my buddies and I considered the RENWAL kits to be absolutely AWFUL! I remember personally trying to build the 1/32 RENWAL US 90mm Anti-Aircraft gun. (Skysweeper? I forget...) THAT was an exercise in frustration! NOTHING fit right, and plastic cements of the day just WOULDN'T WORK properly on RENWAL's plastic!!! We called anything made by RENWAL "GOON ARMY"!!! Actually, back in the same early 1960s era, the 1/40 SNAP Military kits were FAR SUPERIOR to anything else on the market. I personally built a SNAP WWII US Jeep, and an LVT(A)4 "Buffalo" equipped with the 75mm Pack Howitzer. It featured an "operating" suspension and gun elevation with a rotating turret. For that era, the parts were beautifully molded, everything fit properly and were really great to look at and play with- I was only 8 to 9 years old at the time!!! The Jeep was especially nice, including beautifully molded and animated figures of a yelling, pot-bellied non-com, and a USAAF Officer sitting behind the wheel in a casual pose, with his torso turned to the right side, and his right arm was folded and resting on his seat back... He was smiling, and wore the US Army Officer's peaked cap with a beautifully defined US Army Officer's eagle device and a leather A-2 Flight Jacket. All the features of the figures were really nice. Wish we had that kind of scenario available in 1/35, today... I also remember having a REVELL M1 155mm "Long Tom" with M4 Artillery Tractor kit. This 1/40 set was really nice, too, except for the vinyl tracks on the M4, which were stiff and didn't want to stay together at all! The bogies of the M4 tractor articulated. The .50 could be rotated, elevated and depressed as well. Back then, the molds were new, so all of the features of this set were nicely defined. The Long Tom was a sweet kit, too. "Civilian-style" tires, articulating trailing arms, operable "recoil" along with traverse and elevation of the carrier and gun barrel. This old Long Tom kit actually compared favorably to AFV CLUB's Long Tom and M115 8" Howitzer kits- But today, I would still prefer AFV CLUB's Long Tom and 8-incher. HOBBY BOSS' M4 Artillery Tractor (155mm and 20mm) gets my vote today, even though I also have a full resin MASTER MODELS M4 Arty Tractor kit...
OOOPS! "(155mm and 20mm)" should read: "(155mm and 240mm/8-inch)"...

I wasn't referring specifically to the Savannah, but to the historical blurb which followed about Adams/Revell/et al.
The Adams YH-41 referred to in the blurb was the 1/40 Aerial Missile Helicopter. If the Ontos tracks are made out of the soft vinyl Revell is using these days it'll be a big improvement over the older issues and almost workable if tightened up.
