B/2/57 ADA, which was headquartered in Storck Barracks, Illesheim FRG from the '60s-1987(when the Army phased out HAWK systems) and was attached to 1st BDE 1st Armd Div., used M35A1s to move the M-192 Launcher. The battery was set up in the old Munasiedlung, located in the Frankenhohe, approximately midway between Illesheim and Oberdachstetten. It also used M501 mobile transport/loaders, from what I remember. B/2/57 had a dummy missile in front of its company HQ. Every so often, the nose cone would "disappear" and would be found in some odd place on post, like our barracks (1/6th INF) or, inside the NCO Club. The CO finally removed the missile in order to stop the happy horses**t.

What's the release date? Dad spent 20 years with I HAWK so definitely getting to do one with his last unit 1/65th 11th ADA. Also, great website on Hawks is Missiles of Key West.

They were moved by truck. Probably a five ton. Kit looks like it's missing the radar system. Only place I saw them was on the hill north east of the Chu Lai runways. Heard DaNang had a battery, but never saw it. By the way the missile's were painted white! Once they were set, they were never moved. Gary

The truck for it is the M36A2. AFV club already has the M35. All they have to do is extend the bed by 1/3 of their M35 kit.

never heard of an M36 truck, and of course never saw one. New one on me anyway! In Vietnam (first time deployed in combat), you had a choice of two M35's, the M54, or a ten ton wrecker and the dump truck. Once they set them, they never moved them (what good duty?). They never fired a shot, and were gone by late 68. I saw the battery in Chu Lai a few times and the missile cradle was the least of the battery. There were a generator unit and a radar setup off to one side. Those guys had it made! A roof over their heads. Too far in to catch an 82mm mortar round, and about 300 yards from the Americal PX. Plus they had a mattress under them. I figure AFV will bring out the radar and generators as a second kit to make a few extra bucks. gary

Yea the M36A2 was the extended bed version for the 2.5 ton. I only remember seeing them in ADA units pulling the Hawk and the M167 the tow version of the ADA gun.
