It has been almost a year since Trumpeter released its kit on the 4-missile tracked launcher. Soon to hit the stores is the 2-missile version, configured to launch the SA-12b GIANT missile.
Russian S-300V 9A82 SAM (09518). Containing close to 1,000 parts, the kit features:

  • a multi-slide moulded lower and upper hulls
  • individual track links
  • clear parts
  • photo-etched details
  • decal sheet for 2 finishing options
Dimensions of the built model: 305.8mm (L) by 103.7mm (W)

Definitely looking forward to this one. I have a spot ready for it next to the 9A83 GLADIATOR I finished a few months ago.

Naming the SA-12b as "Giant" is rather obvious and appropriate. What a heck of a big kit this one would work out as. Looking forward to a review.

still waiting for trumpy's 09546 T-72A 1979... But I guess at this rate, miniart or meng will release the T-72 ural and mod1979 first.

I got mine in the mail yesterday, it'll be on the work bench as soon as I wrap up a Bronco QF 25 PDR w/limber. It'll go very nicely with the 9A83.

After a bit of struggle, I finally finished this kit. The biggest impediment was the instructions - there are errors that cause extra work if you don't study them very closely. Also, this kit shares the same upper hull as the 9A83, meaning there are openings/slots that are not used in this build and have to be filled. The most egregious error is Step 8 where the instructions say to drill 46 holes in the upper hull - only 8 are required. The brass wire provided (180mm) is too short to do two tow cables. The instructions call for 2 x 85mm wires, they need to be 95-100 each to reach. This kit is better than the 9A83 in showing how to shape some PE, but leaves you guessing on several. Some part call outs are wrong - example: Step 17 says PE-A14 & -A15, should be PE-A12 for both. Same step calls for PE-A12, it's actually PE-A18. Step 19 - S13/S14 are reversed. Step 21 - S31/S32 are reversed. Step 23 S11/S41 are reversed. Same issue here as the 9A83 when attaching the missile canisters to the rails - if you try to snap the clamps over the rails, you'll break them, especially in the turnbuckle. You have to cut the clamps to make them fit over the rails.
