Formations, unlike other AM companies, cover a smaller range of vehicles, but produce sets covering all aspects. Typical of this approach are these new Update/Conversion set for the Lee in 1/35th scale.
The first of these is a conversion set:

F124 - M3A1 Cast Hull Lee Conversion for Academy ($60)

This is an extensive and accurate conversion for the Academy kit 13206 and includes the upper hull, turret, both gun rotors, fenders, trans/final drive cover, exhaust, air cleaners, and lower hull rear plate.

Onto the Update/Detail sets:

F125 - M3 Lee/Grant Transmission/Final Drive Cover for Academy kits ($12)

This is from the Lee conversion and includes the detailed front fenders. It has beautiful cast texture and accurate foundry marks.

F126 - M3 Lee Turret for Academy Kit ($15)

Direct replacement for the Academy parts, corrects the contours of the turret shell, and the profile of the gun rotor. Includes M.G. barrels and can be built with or without the stabilizer counter weight.

F127 - Square Air Cleaners and Fish Tail Exhausts for Academy Lee/Grant kits ($10)

Replacement exhaust, air cleaners, and lower hull rear plate. Simple direct fit parts to replace the pepperpot kit parts.

Now, a word from Rob Ervin the Owner of Formations:

Now for a little info about Formations. We have been in business over 7 years and appreciate the continued support of so many of our loyal customers. We have a number of exciting new releases in the works, including new Ram tank conversions, parts for the Dragon Priest, more Sherman details including a small hatch M4 composite upper hull, M47 detail parts, even some complete kits that will have fans of Canadian soft skins cheering. But economic times are tough and I may be forced to make the business a part time side line unless things improve. This could adversely effect the flow of new releases. If you like what we have done in the past, and what we are planning, vote with your wallet. Your support at this time could make a big difference in our future as a company. More Excellent stuff from Rob, times are hard all around me thinks and the production of some of the more specific versions of the Sherman by plastic manufacturers won't have helped the AM producers either. Interesting looking cast hull M3 Lee, anyone know how widely these were produced/used? Al

Al, from a quick look through my references it appears that only about 300 of the cast hull version were produced. It's referred to as the Lee II. Virtually all later variants had either welded or riveted hulls. HTH, tread_geek

Looking great! I just bought one of their new releases. Formations quality never disappoints, and I have been very satisfied with them. Hope things get better for Rob and his business.

Just picked up D. Doyle's M-3 Lee books from Squadron and AFVisual. It seems all these ALCO Lees were used for training in Tennessee / Fort Knox. Somewhere in the assembly line they welded closed and then deleated the side doors completely and reversed the hinges on the hull roof hatch. So even with a small number produced there are variations. Have to get out my copy of Bogart's Sahara and see which type they " steal " spares from . Another tank on my to build list.

Great to see this version, certainly one I hoped would be released sometime. I will probably get one sooner or later. Formations have great kits! Cheers! Stefan

Nice! This would make for a good Fort Knox scene...

Many of the US Canal Defense Light (CDL) used the cast M3A1s. these were the bright spot lamp turreted tanks used in the Rhine river crossing and also used to protect the Ludendorf bridgehead too.
