Tweezers by Wilder

Introduction

I recently received a package from the Airbrush Company Ltd with a selection of offerings by Wilder Products from Russia. Possibly of interest to the UK and European members is that the Airbrush Company Ltd is one of the listed importers of the Wilder Products range. In this review I am going to take a look at two sets of Tweezers of the five options in the Wilder Products range, these two are size 3 (TT-03) and size 5 (TT-05).

Contents

Each of the two tweezers are provided in a plastic container that pops open and has a display card inside. I know that this will not affect the product as such but Wilder Products has designed a very eye catching blue, yellow and black colouring to their backing cards, which looks very professional. It is also worth mentioning that Wilder Products packaging pops closed again and so could be used for keeping your tweezers in and helping prevent damage to the tips of the tweezers.

Review

From the packaging the points of the tweezers are protected by silicone caps. The finish on the tweezers is of a high standard being what appears to be a black powder coat; the only thing that surprised me is that I expected to see the circled ‘W’ on them somewhere. Both the straight and curved tweezers have a 12mm area of exposed metal at the tips. The finish of the tips is of a good standard, having just a very light texture on the inner face to aid grip; a note on the tips of both tweezers, they are very sharp and punctured my skin with ease, so take care when using them. On the Airbrush Company Ltd website the tweezers are listed as being 'rigged, non-corrosive, anti-magnetic, acid-resistant fine tweezers perfect for working with very fine details', I obviously cannot verify most of these statements.

In use

Starting with the straight pointed tweezers; the energy required to compress the tweezers is very light, and the tips meets perfectly. I did not detect any lateral movement in the tweezers when picking up small items, or for that matter parts wanting to twist between the tips. These tweezers do feel to be a quality product and that is bearing in mind that I use stainless steel surgical tweezers usually. The curved tweezers share all of the same high qualities as the straight pair, but they do require more force to close the points, this may decrease with use.

As a test I picked a small piece of photo etch to test the ability of the tweezers to pick it up with the very tips, and I also wanted to see if I had a comfortable control of the part and tweezers. I placed a ruler in the pictures in order for you to be able to judge scale. I found that both sets of tweezers picked the photo etched part up with is and I had or felt fully in control of the part in the tweezers grip.

Conclusion

I feel that with these two products the expression “You get what you pay for” applies. First impressions are that these, if looked after will provide many years of sterling service. They feel comfortable in my hand and give the impression of a good quality product. I look for the negatives as well as the pluses in products I review, as that is what the reader usually wants to be made aware of; this product the only thing I could possibly question is price, but they do seem to be worth the money.

SUMMARY
Highs: These Tweezers look to be of a good quality and from new perform perfectly; the price is a little steep, but if they continue to work as they do from new it is a price worth paying.
Lows: I cannot fault the products.
Verdict: If the price does not frighten you I believe these will do you good service for many years judging by the quality.

What makes these any better then my Klein tweezers from Shesto?...at nearly double the cost with the same specs, where do these excel where my Klein ones do not?

I cannot answer that as I do not have that brand of tweezers in my possession. All I can tell you is that they are to my mind a quality product. Their ability to pick up and give you control of very small items is very good and not all tweezers manage that.
