IntroductionLiebherr Radlader L 580 Loghandler
is a new HO model from Herpa
. It is Item 306843
. This heavy equipment logging front-end loader is one of 33 Liebherr models in Herpa's catalogue, one of 3 L580 types, and part of the 102 models in the Construction Vehicles series. Per Herpa
New type! With new accessory equipment, the elaborately designed grabber for short wood, Herpa’s popular Liebherr wheel loader is revived. The functional grabber was designed with love for detail by Herpa engineers. The model is first released in Liebherr Colors.
The Liebherr log handler shares a common basic vehicle with these statistics;
Tipping load kinked
18,700 - 19,500 kg
27,650 - 28,800 kg
Max. Gross power ISO 3046
233 kW / 317 hp
Max. Net power ISO 9249
230 kW / 313 hp*
Like fire trucks and other whining flashing emergency vehicles, growling heavy construction machinery catches the eye, fascinates the imagination and stirs the pulse.
Herpa's Liebherr Radlader L 580 Loghandler is a factory assembled model with several moving components. The model is made of injection-molded styrene and rubber-plastic composite wheels. Molding and assembly is high quality with no flash, seam lines, sink marks or visible ejector circles. Numerous separately applied parts enhance the authenticity.
Typical of front-end loaders the Liebherr L580 turns with an articulated body pivoting between a front and rear body. The rear half contains the powerplant, hydraulic components (pumps, motors, valves and so on) and the transmission components and accessories, while the front mounts the boom/lift arms and attachment - the loader log grab.
All parts are sharply molded.
The boom is positionable with a movable interior bellcrank and bucket link, and loader lift cylinders. As is the loader log grab.
A cab is included. The large clear windows show the detail within.
Herpa made the engine hood to open revealing a simple engine top. With my sample I can not make the hood stay flush and closed with the rest of the engine cowl.
Separately applied hand rails and mirrors and headlights are attached to the body. Between the front and rear bodies, Herpa includes a faux set of hoses and piping.
The composite tires have tread detail.
Finish and Markings
I don't see any of the actual body that is painted except for a few chromed items. The model is molded in color as best as I can tell.
Herpa does not use decals, they print markings and logos on their models. That printing is sharp.
Heavy equipment is a popular subject and this Liebherr Radlader L 580 Loghandler
should thrill modelers of modern day logging operations or other subjects.
The model boasts excellent molding of parts - in color - with minor painting of minor parts. Printing of markings is first-rate.
The model has good detail with separately applied parts and an engine access hood that opens. Unfortunately, I could not get the cowling shut and latched. It is an articulated "action" model allowing the positioning of components.
This model is a very appealing subject. Whether one is a museum modeler collecting models, or a dioramaist or model railroader of the current era, this model should be very popular.
