Introduction

This is a 1/35th scale set of a Russian machine gun team. It has the Maxium M.G. in a firing or travel position. It includes a gunner and assistant gunner (loader).
The usual armored box that I.C.M. uses with instructions and paint guides with a parts diagram. There was no flash on any of the sprues and no broken parts.

Review

There is the artist rendition of the set in firing position on the outer box sleeve. Inside there are four sets of light tan sprues in a reseal able plastic bag. One is of the figures, the second and third is the M.G. and the forth is a set of Russian Inf. equipment. There are instruction and paint guide sheets for each section which is clear and not confusing at all.

The figures can only be used in the firing position and if you want to have it in the hand held pulling position you will have to figure or source out some new figures. The instructions at point 5A-5B,6A-6B, and step 8A-8B will show the difference for the firing or towed position for the M.G.

The figures are pretty nice. One face has a handle bar mustache and the expressions are adequate for injection molding. The uniforms are time era appropriate and look good. The creases in the clothing are sharp and look natural. The positioning of the figures is good and seems correct from the reference pictures I found.

The addition of the weapon set is useful but not necessary as the M.G. figures have their own. But for additional figures or battle field debris it is handy. It is a small set but a needed one for the W.W.1 series that I.C.M. is releasing. As a standalone diorama it will be perfect, or used in conjunction with the rest of their Russian figures for a larger diorama. Just a note, you could use this set for the time up to W.W.2. as white or red Russian forces in the revolution. The M.G. can be used up to and through the second W.W.

The M.G. looks nice but some care when removing the thin parts will be needed. The only thing I found missing is the small chain for the water plug and some wing nuts on the M.G. support, which are small enough that most people will not notice.

All things considered, I would rate it as a 9 out of 10. A well done set which is really needed for use diorama builders.

just got this kit through one of Squadron's recent sales; haven't started it yet but it looks like a good little kit; good to see more WWI stuff especially considering this is the 100th anniversary of its end;
