Introduction

Corsar Rex is a company that has been releasing resin and white metal figures since 2009 in three main scales of 1/16th, 1/35th and 1/48th. A look at their website will quickly reveal that 1/35th scale resin figures usually covering the period of World War 2 from all combatants are their stock and trade. The latest offerings are listed as Finnish soldiers of the Waffen SS in 1/35th scale.

Review

Starting this review with a close look at the quality of the resin casting results in a positive opinion in my case. Casting has been managed with two connection points in the case of this offering which are on the underside of the figure where they will be hidden even if poorly cleaned up. The helmet has a tab at the rear that will need carful removal to avoid damaging the rim of the helmet. The right and left arm has a single tab casting plug that will be easily tackled in the case of this figure as it is at the shoulder. The MP40 is also easily cleaned up with the absolute minimum of effort.

The figure is shown in a kneeling position warming its hands next to the fire. The clothing consists of a fur lined winter jacket with fur trim visible at the collar and wrists; this aspect of the model is very nicely replicated. The seams of the jacket and crease detail are also worthy of mention as they look good while the crease detail is very natural having a softness about it. The trousers are the baggy winter camouflage type and again have very good crease and seam detail. The boots are I believe the high legged type and I am very pleased to see hobnail detail present where required.

Equipment wise there is a luger holstered at the rear waist with a good level of detail. Hanging from its harness over the right shoulder is an MP40 machine gun that has a good level of detail minus having a recess at the muzzle. The MP40 sits snugly into a recess on the body of the figure and the harness is moulded on the figure, the result is a very nice look to the item with a natural hang to it. The helmet tab has proved to be a pain for me with a success rate of 50% in avoiding damage, but as you can see I still have a little shaping to finish the area.

The hands of the figure are excellent having very nice finger and palm detail; this is one of the few figures where I can see that the fingers are different in length and look natural. The face is well proportioned with all features present, but I would have liked to see an expression on the face. The lack of expression on the faces of these figures is the one complaint I can really make as the fit and detail is very well done and rates amongst the best in my opinion.

The Build

The clean up of the parts is easy for the most part as the tab on the rear of the helmet is attached to a very fine edge, that fine edge is really nice but breaks or more accurately is damaged very easily. I tried cutting this tab away with a new scalpel blade and failed miserably; I then grabbed a new set of side cutters and removed the tab a little at a time which was more successful, but you still need a lot of care and a little sanding. The fit of the parts is first rate and very well tackled by Corsar Rex that results in a very high quality finish.

Conclusion

I really like this figure and its stance; it could easily be used on a vehicle resting its hands against a part of a vehicle or possibly pushing an item off of a vehicle. There is nothing beyond the helmet and MP40 that indicate the figure to be a member of the Axis Forces and so could represent a figure from a number of locations. This really is a stunning figure that I think every member who is into German figures will really like having available to them.
