Introduction

Accurate Armour are a well known Scottish Company based in Inverclyde who have an extensive range of resin products. As well as range of full resin kits and conversion sets, they are well worth a visit if you are looking for some accessories. They have an excellent range of British Ammunition sets and this is a brief look at set A009- British WWII Wooden 2pdr Ammunition boxes.

The boxes were mastered by Phil Hendry

The Set

The boxes come packed in the standard Accurate Armour format, being contained within a thick plastic bag attached to a thin cardboard backing card. The card displays the product and manufacturers details.

Cast in a light grey resin the set parts were free from and air bubbles or damage. The casting is excellent, detail on the boxes looks extremely well done. There may be a small amount of flash to remove.

The set contains 12 x 2pdr wooden ammo boxes with closed lids, 2 x wooden ammo boxes with open lids, 8 x tin liners with closed lids and 2 x tin liners with open lids.. The lids come a separate items.

C198 Wooden boxes contained two metal liners with 8 rounds in each liner and the two open liners depict the correct number of shells inside. The two open boxes also clearly show the 2 x liners inside.

The boxes show the rope carrying handles nicely moulded on the box sides, the various clamps and metal fitting are well moulded and appear correct. Both the box and liner lids are nicely done to.

The box sides appear to be fairly smooth. I am not sure what type of wood was used to make the boxes but you could add a little graining if you felt it was necessary.

Also included in the set is a small paper insert detailing the content and painting of the boxes on the front side and some general safety precautions and bonding advice on the reverse side.

Conclusion

As 2pdr ammunition was used in the Valentine, Matilda Mk II, A9, A10 and A13 Tanks as well as Crusaders, Churchill Mk I and Mk II tanks and the Covenanter, these boxes show have a wide range of possible stowage or arming possibilities. They can also be used with the Vulcan or Sovereign 2pdr anti tank guns.

The detail on the boxes looks very good and the general information on their content and a painting guide which are contained on the paper insert provide very useful data.

You will need a sharp razor saw to remove the boxes from the pour stubs, so take normal precautions when working with resin.

No decal markings are provided with the set, so check your reference for markings as I could find no clear reference to what if any these markings were.

Another excellent and useful product from this well established Scottish Manufacturer.

2pdr ammunition also came in the C207 Mk I and Mk II (metal) ammunition style boxes and there may be another AM opportunity there for someone as I don’t recall have seen a set depicting that style.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
