Think of unique warships. We have the CSS Virginia, USS Monitor, USS Albany, and among many others HMS Illustrious, R06. She arrived too late to take part in the Falkland Islands War, but this is where he design was proven to be worthy. Lusty, as her crew calls her, has seen action in many operations over the years and undergone many up grades.
During my time in the Navy had the pleasure to see her in action off the coast of Norway and in Vestfijord. Her distinctive ski jump was added to give her Harries the ability to launch with more weapons. This ski jump has been copied by the Russian and Indian Navies on their carriers.
Just like any warship Illustrious has undergone changes during her service. She originally had a different weapons layout. Along with this her sensors were radically different than they are today. With the new Airfix kit available there are those who plan to backdate the kit to the 1980’s fit of the ship, so this will provide some help.
Here again we have a series of images, 109, on the DVD that will be rather helpful to the modeler. We all wish to make our projects as accurate as possible and this is another tool to help with that. Both color and b/w images are provided on the DVD.
Those fans of the Royal Navy will for sure want to pick up a copy. Having operated with Illustrious I am pleased to see her covered in her own DVD. Subjects for the Royal Navy seem to be a little hit and miss, but this is just the ticket. Again, I love the format and size of these DVD’s.
