Ready To Roll Trailer Dollies, Orange
A converter gear or dolly is a coupling device of one or two axles and a fifth wheel by which a semi-trailer can be coupled to the rear of a tractor-trailer combination forming a double bottom rig.*
HO Ready To Roll Trailer Dolly
Athearn makes converter dollies in HO and N scale to complement their semi-truck tractors and vans. You get four of their popular Ready To Roll dollies per package.
Athearn currently offers 32 dollies and dolly sets. Athearn securely packages four dollies in a blister pack on a stiff card backing. The dollies are separated from each other with formed blisters. This minimizes scuffing the paint and displays the models.
Each is factory assembled and Ready-To-Roll, hence the series name. The dollies are molded with basic detail. Four vinyl tires rotate on a metal axle, and a spare tire is included. The hubs have soft detail. Each dolly has a unique number. The fifth wheel mates with many commonly available HO trailers. Each has support leg/jack assembly molded in the extended position.
These converter dollies are useful models for modern modular dioramas. The molding, while basic, is fairly sharp, and the printing is crisp. The wheel hub detail is soft and the support leg/jack assembly is molded extended. The tires have good detail and are not hard styrene.
