STUDEBAKER

by: Ian Sadler [ IANSADLER ]

vThe book under review is the latest title in the RED Series no 23; STUDEBAKER from Wings and Wheels publications, RAK, P.O. Box 35, 17006, Prague 7, Czech Republic. The authors are Frantisek Koran and Jaroslav Spacek, ISBN no is 80-86416-19-4, and the price varies from country to country, so please check with your local book dealer. Printed in the now very usual landscape format and in full colour and English text, this book has 60 pages crammed full of 227 photographs and the accompanying text is kept to the absolute minimum.

The book follows the now familiar layout of sub chapters dealing with all the relevant details. I.e. engine, body, cab internal’s, chassis etc. All the vehicles portrayed in the book are from the Czech Military museums at Lesany and Rokycany collections.

Two of the models covered are the standard GS troop body and the 5th wheel tractor.

I have kept the following details till last for they form the bulk of the book, it has a full breakdown of the construction of the BM 13 Stalin’s Organ, the section on the sights for the rocket launcher are a modellers dream come true. The breath of detail contained in the photographs is truly staggering and each volume gets better and better. This series of books is setting new standards with each one and the depth of subjects covered in such a short time is overwhelming.

Once more Franti’s team have come up with a winner and anyone lucky enough to be able to find one of these rare vehicles will find it very helpful in the restoration of the vehicle. All we need as model makers is the 1/35 scale kit in plastic to go with the book, and for once the book has arrived ahead of the kit. Those lucky enough in 1/72 scale, who have the PST kit to work from, this book will truly enhance their models, from out of the box to show winners.

Go out and buy this book and add it to your reference self now, you will not be disappointed. Many thanks to Franti for the advance copy to review, as always it was a pleasure.
