introduction

Thor Hobby is a newer company offering accessories for armoured fighting vehicles. Their first releases covered ammunition accessories for German guns in 1/72 scale.

The sets reviewed here, A7202 and A7203, are both for the German 8.8cm L/71 gun. Each set contains nine pieces, with three each of two different types of ammunition and three spent shell casings.

the kit

The rounds are made of turned brass and are extremely well done, with very neat detail shown on them, including depiction of the fuse and different "ring" marks on the base of the projectile. The three spent shell casings in each set have been drilled out slightly to present a hollowed appearance. The bases show no detail but I don't know how much would be visible in this scale.

I was unable to determine exactly which rounds are depicted, and no information or painting guide is included with the set. I was not able to make accurate measurements of the supplied rounds but my eyeball says they look the part.

The suggested retail price is $12.50 US, but searching online I found them to be less, generally in the $8-9 dollar range US. Prices in the EU were higher. As always, shop around for the best price.

These sets will make a nice addition to any suitable model kit or diorama, although getting them in large quantity will be expensive.
SUMMARY
Highs: Very well machined with nice, clear detail.
Lows: No painting guide or other information about the contents.
Verdict: This is a well made diorama accessory.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
