Value Gear - Tents and Tarps #3 and Wooden Crates #1

by: Kevin Brant [ SGTRAM ]

introduction

Value Gear keeps turning out more products, including their generic tents & tarp rolls, and have recently added wooden crates. The items are a grey-cast resin, will very little to no flash. Having reviewed a previous set from Value Gear, I was very impressed with the new sets. The moldings continue to be very sharp, but this time around, there was not an air bubble to be found. They seemed to have improved the molding process greatly.

what you get

The Tents and Tarps #3 comes with 16 assorted generic rolls ready for paint and add to your latest project.

Crates #1 has 22 generic wooden crates.

the review

Like previous sets, the size and shape of the rolls vary and are generic so they can be added to whatever country or era you model. The moldings are very sharp and straps are well pronounced. One small issue I found, in my opinion: the buckles are a little too pronounced, but a little sanding would remedy this easily.

The "Crates #1" set follows the same concept as the rolls: varied size generic wooden crates. Again the moldings are sharp, with a very nice wood grain. The package came with 5 longer larger crates, 2 larger more square crates, 3 medium size, 9 smaller varied-sized crates, for a total of 19 in the package. Again I was very impressed with the look, and the multiple generic uses of these crates.

Painting the items is just as easy as they look. I gave a few a whirl with paint using Vallejo colors and no primer. The paint goes on very well and the sharpness of the detail, including folds, looks great once painted and shadowed.

conclusion

I highly recommend these items, they are invaluable to have in the "spares" box when needing to add a little life to your latest build or diorama.

Crate set #1 is 22 crates, I think kevin's cat might have grabbed a couple crates for playtime and he will find them on the floor one dark night stepping barefoot into the kitchen to a painful surprise...
