SKP models have been developing their range of 1/35 figures at a steady pace. The latest addition being a representation of Sir Winston Churchill in a fairly familiar war time pose.
Many volumes have been written both by Churchill and others about his career but for the United Kingdom and Commonwealth he was, IMHO, the right man at the right time, and we might live in a much different world today had he not had the determination to withstand the Nazi onslaught during WW2.
The figure is not marketed as Churchill so one could say "draw your own conclusion".
The figure comes in a sturdy small cardboard box with a paper colour representation of the model inside, along with product and manufacturers information.
Inside are two plastic zip bags, one contains the figure cast as a whole, head and right hand and the other the walking stick.
Cast in a blue/grey resin the figure is of 4 parts and shows Churchill in a standing pose dressed in a knee length coat, trousers and shoes. The head sports a typical Churchill hat and the right hand and walking cane are separate items to add to the build.
The figure measures approximately 44mm from heel to shoulder so a very acceptable height. The detail on the clothing looks well done, visible under the overcoat is a white shirt and dickey bow tie.
The head, which is a separate item, shows a reasonable representation of Churchillís face be it all slightly younger looking so that will be an area of interest for the painter. The heads sports a hat and a separate hand is provided for the cane.
Overall the body has good proportions and the stance and dress appropriate for depicting Churchill in Britain during the conflict. It will be interesting to see how the face is treated by modellers but it has all the features to help build a decent portrait.
As a stand alone figure you could leave the base on or the figure could be used in connection with troop visits in the UK or with him visiting bombed out areas of the country.
If Churchill isnít your thing then a new head will quickly make a useful civilian for most anywhere in North West Europe.
Highs: Decent quality and an important wartime figure.Lows: None I can think of.Verdict: Recommended.
