Mercedes-Benz A-Class, south seas blue metallic
Brochure: Herpa Cars & Trucks 2013 / 01-02
Mercedes-Benz new A-Class is sportier with many technological improvements. Herpa kicks off the sporty four-door in south seas blue metallic and zirrus white.
The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is scheduled to arrive in dealerships in September. With “Urban”, “Style” and “AMG Sport” appointment lines, three Design packages (“Night”, “Exclusive” and “AMG Exclusive”) as well as further optional extras, the model can be customised to suit every individual taste.*
The car boasts powerful engines ranging from 80 kW (109 hp) to 155 kW (211 hp), and a best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.27. Both diesel and gasoline engines are available
The new basic [diesel - Ed.] engine in the OM 607 series develops 80 kW(109 hp). The new top diesel, the A 220 CDI, is no less than 25 percent better than its predecessor: it develops an output of 125 kW (170 hp).** The new A 200 [gasoline - Ed.] produces 115 kW(156 hp) between 155 kW(211 hp).***
This new model type joins over 1742 other M-B models by Herpa, including 25 A-Class models. The model is fully assembled and packed in a light plastic form-fitted tray secured in a light plastic box.
I found no flaws in the molding or assembly. The exterior features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels. The tires have no tread detail except for the very edges.
Breathe that new car smell
Individual clear lenses simulate the headlamps and tinted lenses simulate the tail lights.
Separate side view mirrors are attached. Soft plastic tires encompass detailed rims.
The gray interior is very impressive, featuring bucket seats, the steering wheel, console, rear-view mirror, stick shift and dashboard detailing. The rear view and side mirrors lack reflective surfaces. It is easy to see through the clear windows.
Only basic molded detail is found on the underside. Faint windshield wipers are molded onto the black chrome on the windshield. Two exhaust ports peek out from below the rear bumper.
Paint and Finish
This model is beautifully finished in südseeblau metallic
/ south seas blue metallic. It is also available in zirrusweiß
/ zirrus white. Chrome accent strips extenuate the windows. Chrome Mercedes-Benz logos emblazoning the hood and rear are stamp-painted. These emblems and markings are sharply printed and not decals. Herpa does not use decals. The paint is thin, glass-smooth, and opaque.
Herpa has released an impressive model M-B A-Class. It has fine plastic detail and excellent finishing. It features clear and tinted lenses for headlights and brake lights, a detailed interior, and applied side view mirrors. Printing is sharp. Even though it lacks tire detail and underside detail, I happily recommended this model for collectors, model railroaders, and diorama makers.
