Introduction

Kingfisher Miniatures is a manufacturer from West Sussex, England. The company specializes mostly in 1/76th scale modern UK vehicles and equipment. One of the latest releases from Kingfisher is a LandRover Defender 90 Hardtop in 1/76th scale.

The LandRover Defender has been, and is being used by many militaries around the world, and has been serving with the British military since 1950. While not armored, it has proven to be a great military utility vehicle for years.

The 1/76th scale kit from Kingfisher Miniatures comes in a small box with a printed label showing an image of the completed kit. Inside the box is three small zip lock bags, two containing resin parts and one containing white metal parts. Also in the box is a single sheet of paper instructions, printed on both sides.

Review

The two biggest parts of this small scale kit are the body and hard top. Both parts are cast in resin, and look to have good detail. The hard top piece will require to have the flash in the windows cut out, and I have noticed that there is no window material in the box, thus the builder will have to make there own from clear plastic or from a liquid window making creation.

Having windows is required if you want to show off the interior detail that is included in the kit. The interior is made up from resin cast seats and cast white metal detail parts. Being a larger scale builder, I was surprised by the amount of detail in the cast white metal parts. Some of the detail includes the steering wheels and gear shifter.

The wheels, running gear, and exterior details are also cast in white metal with exceptional detail. The parts include the axles, drive shaft, bumpers, mirrors, and more. Also included is some of the exterior stowage that would be seen on military vehicles. It should be noted that the white metal parts do contain some flash that will need to be cleaned up.

A quick test fit of the body and hard top shows a decent fit that will seem to correct itself very well with some sanding prior to final assembly.

The instruction are printed two sided on a standard 8.5” by 11” sheet of paper. There is a text description of the assembly with a diagram of the assembly on the back side. The instructions do include painting information with reference to Humbrol colors, but does not include any decals.

Conclusion

Overall for a small scale kit in the eyes of a larger scale builder, this small scale Defender from Kingfisher Miniatures looks to be a great looking and well detailed in 1/76 scale. The kits looks like it will be build into a great looking small scale vehicle. The only drawbacks are no material for the windows or decals. I would definitely recommend this kit.

SUMMARY
Highs: Great looking detail.
Lows: No decals or material for windows.
Verdict: Great looking small small scale kit, definitely recommended.
