MiG-21PFM wheels, dedicated for Eduard kit.
Series: Brassin

Eduard have prepared a long line-up of improvement sets dedicated exclusively for their MiG-21PFM. All of them, except one, have already been reviewed and presented on Aeroscale. The time has come to fill the hole and present the last remaining set.

This Brassin set is devoted to MiG-21PFM wheels and consists of:
  • two main wheels
  • separate brake drums
  • separate wheel disks
  • nose wheel with separate brake drum
  • nose wheel fork
  • photo etched set
  • painting mask

The set offers a simple replacement of the title plastic parts from the kit with resin ones, enhanced by few photo-etched details. To achieve a full effect intended by its designers you will also have to use a thin wire or stretched sprue to make the brake lines.

Assembling process is simple and straightforward. A bit of patience and good eyes will be required for attaching tiny PE parts to the front landing gear leg but its not very complicated. I think Eduard expects us to lose some of these tiny details and provides more than it is necessary. Study the instruction sheet carefully before staring the work. You will have to pay some attention on painting to choose your best way of dealing with things. As the internal parts of the braking drums are separate castings you can choose either to paint each part separately or assembled. You can also support yourself with the paper painting masks supplied by Eduard. Masks are simply the pre-cut paper wheels for painting the wheel rims and disks.

For the front wheel Eduard also provide the wheel fork. This part is cast in a dark grey resin, which should be stronger than the light grey. This part will have to keep the weight of the whole kit on a rather thin and very delicate joints so using a more reliable resin is very welcome.

The detail level is great, impossible to be achieved in plastic injection technology. In resin it is enable to replicate in scale the finest nuances of the brakes construction and front wheel fork castings. Combination of the best assets of resin castings and photo-etched frets results in a very fine final effect. And as you see it's an easy to use and effective upgrade.
