ola Guys

@ Sean
Well hopefully in time I can welcome you to the Postcard Challenge as well.
As for your question no the base is not included in the sizerestrictions. Basically you can make it the size of a phonebook as long as the actual diorama is 10,5cm by 15cm

@ Alex (Bluestab)
Yes What if projects are perfectly fine. All periods from the earliest military vehicle/gun to postapocalypse and zombies is allowed.
I have given your other question a good thinkover and I think the answer to that is no. Nothing on the diorama may exceed the 10,5cm by 15cm border. Reason for the size restriction is that I want people to think creatively how to best utilize the available space to create the scene they had in mind.

Loving how well this idea is taking off, the more the merrier! Going to be great to see the range of ideas that are going to be used in such a small space

yeah I like it as well. I had not expected to go this quickly.

It's fun because everybody has exactly the same playingfield but they are absolutely free in how they fill it. Will indeed be interesting to see what entries will come up. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm already enjoying it and it is just running one day.
I have just submitted the campaign. Hopefully it will be accepted soon.

Hi Robert,

I need to get a few things straight, as I have never taken part in a campaign before. I'm excited already, and a bit nervous.
This campaign starts July 1st and runs for 6 months. Does that mean we can get ideas going and buy the kits etc. before this date so everything is ready to roll, just as long as we don't start before said date?
How can I prove that I didn't start early? Trust and honesty being, of course, the best principles.

Ola guys

@ Pete
Thanks a lot for the heads up. I' glad the mission is approved.

@ John
Nothing wrong with your thoughts there mate. The months prior to the campaigns startdate you think up your idea and buy everything you need. And when it is Juli 1st you can start. Exception to this rule is that if you decide to have part of a vehicle (one third minimum) then it is allowed to enter the campaign with a vehicle that has already be started. For instance an old kit that you don't mind cutting up or an old shelfqueen finding a new destination that way.
If you start with a fresh kit on or after the campaigns start date then you make a pic with the box and the newspaper of that day. Or you photograph it next to your cellphone. And if you forget it or something. No real problem there. It is mainly based on trust and honesty but I'm not governing that to the strictest. Most of all I want people to enjoy stepping out of the boundaries they would normally do and experience the fun of creating a diorama.

I've just signed up. Good to know that we can re-use old, partly built vehicles. Am currently thinking of a wreck, and have the figure and stone structure sorted out. Now trying to visualize how to fit them all in that limited space. Hmmm, if I could get my hands on Gru's shrink ray gun then the Maus might just make it...

@ Tat
Again thanks for participating.
yeah I can't really force people to cut up perfectly good new vehicles. I can imagine not everybody is willing to do that. While pretty much everybody will have a started vehicle they lost interest in or an old shelfqueen that could be refurbished that way.
Looking forward to your project.

By the way... The Maus has been under the shrinkgun

And at 7 something cm that would fit

Rob,

I'm all enlisted and ready to go! Just a thought over the ribbon, think that the inclusion of a 'stamp' would be nice, seeing as its a 'postcard' challenge, and when I keep a dull night shift at work I'll break out the pencils and paper and sketch my idea down and share it

I have been playing with a few ideas and a calculator. It's amazing just how little you can fit in the space in 1/35th. My inital idea I had to scrap, even compressed a little(well a lot actually) in 1/35th I can't make it fit, so onto plan B!

@ Steph
Welcome to the Postcard Challenge. Looking forward to your ideas.

@ Paul
hehehe if it was easy it wouldn't be a challenge.
I think you will be happy with the coming months to crystallize your ideas before the campaign starts.
But to give you an idea what can be done with such a space. Here is an article I wrote for this site a while back (2003 yes.. 10 years ago) and it was my endproduct of the very first campaign of Armorama. It was called the "Window campaign". And the rules were from the top of my head: It had to include a window, a sniper, it had to be built for a very small budget. And I can't remember if it had size restriction but it could very well be as most of the entries were similar size.
It is a very old article and most of the pictures don't really work anymore. And my writing also matured in the last 10 years.
Distraction Greta's revenge

Looking back at it my photography was pretty horrid back then. But that diorama still stands somewhere at my parents house. When I visit them somewhere in the coming weeks I will take it with me and shoot some new pictures of it

Robert, Now I like that Old dio of yours great bit of work. Went out and bought a 6x4 inch picture frame this morning and all I can say is my god that really is small.

But a few little cheats I maybe able to fit my idea in, if I am careful. We shall have to see.

Hehehe @ Paul

Still you would be surprised what you can fit into a size that small. Most of my diorama's end up being around that size.
I have another example for you and others to get an idea what is possible. This is a slightly bigger base. Measuring 16,5cm by 11,5cm. Only 1,5cm bigger on both axis'

Vormarsch Diorama gallery

Even in 1:35 you can fit a world in there.

And yes. Be free to cheat. Sometimes a little creative rulebending is just what is needed to make it a success.

Nice diorama Robert.

Glad the campaign has taken off, and in just two days no less! I've even considering Braille for the first time.

@ Christopher
Thanks for the compliments.
And I have to agree with you. That approval came at some speed. I'm pretty happy with that. Hopefully more people will step in to join. Not that I'm complaining about the 11 people signed up so far. I think that is a pretty neat start in just 2 days.

And believe me. I am thinking about what to do several times a day. Checking my stash.. seeing what I got and such. And what to do for this challenge. I think I'm going to measure up a Stug.
Luckily we still have some months before the campaigns start date. So enough time to think out something.

It's a small workspace and many vehicles are out of the running from the get-go. However, if you play with the ground work you can gain an extra cm or two by using an incline. You can fit a short gunned StuG III/Panzer III and even a M4 Sherman if you have it climbing an incline of about 30-35 degrees. A sdkfz 251 will fit on an incline. A D version will need to be going downhill so the rear fits.

Most light tanks fit without any problems. Jeeps, Universal carriers, M113s, Mutts, Humvees, and M8 Greyhound all fit. Some may be tricky to stick the other required features in there.

Right now I am thinking about a Sherman climbing over a hedgerow. Or maybe a Ford GPA Amphibian entering the water. Or I might cut up a Valentine. To be honest, I'll probably change my mind a couple dozen times between now and the campaign's start.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Alex, I know what you mean. I was going to do a T-34 being hauled back out of a swamp, But the building part of the campaign kind of throws that out. The only thing I could think of was some kind of jetty/fishing spot but I coul not fit in. Oh well maybe an idea for later....

Hi there,
lot of talk about space and its usage. All sounds good too . But I have thought of something else, a bit of playing the words or numbers in this case:
Whats the smallest Hummel anyone has heard of?
Because IŽd like to do this:
15 x Sdkfz 165 - 15 x 10.5

Ola Guys

Great I see a lot of you already got their thinking caps on.

@ Alex
Yep inclines enlarge the surface considerably allowing you to fit bigger vehicles. When you want tanks and such you probably will have some creative cutting to do. I see some good ideas already. For instance the Sherman climbing a hedgerow would make for a seriously intense diorama.
There is a phrase I heard long ago... can't remember from where or from whom but it says:"Never use more space then neccesary to tell your story". And that especially goes for diorama's this small.

@ Paul
I had to wrap my head around that to understand it but then I saw it. Clever thinking and if you can fit that in the 10,5 by 15 space you are off to go.

I kinda have an idea... the main question is am I willing to sacrifice my perfectly in order Stug III G from Dragon for it? Hmmmm Questions questions questions.
