ComradeMP welcome to the KV campaign very cool choice you bring along and also great that you're going to scratch it . I hope to see lots of pics along the way, this will be a great "step by step" for the not so experienced modellers

Scott welcome to you also and a great choice you bring along too.
Here's a tip for getting pics onto the thread (Flickr) :-
1. click the BBCode and then choose the size you wish. Middle
works good on here (800 x 600)
2. copy the code with the right hand mouse button
3. place the Code in the thread
4. remove all of the following red text:-

Remember to keep the bracketed img part. This way you will only show the picture and not your complete Flickr account.

Hi Jon D, welcome to our little "kommune" here. I see you have chosen one of the more popular versions . If I am not mistaken your entry is #4, but still a cool choice and looking forward to seeing her done.
Oh yes, nice laptop there it looks very familiar .

Lol Paul, it is so ugly it has to be popular!
I have put the first fenders on, the damage is more by accident than design

Thanks guys. I actually tried building this one a few months ago, but wrong base kit, and just the way I went about it came out all wrong. So, this here's my second go at this, and I'm coming in with the right stuff.

Got myself to actually do some work for once, cut the openings and put all the roof parts in place.

Periscopes, been nice if I had something better to use...

Learning from past mistakes I got a grinder to help out with things, careful measurements and I used layers of styrene to give the parts some strength.

Got to try out my latest purchase, Mr. Dissolved putty on the castmate roof. While that dried, I started to get the hull parts together, and while that dried, I drew out the rear plate on the styrene. And that's where I'm at right now.

Unlike last time, I want to get the castmate together so I can simply drop it in to place and glue it. Seeing as how the fenders won't meet, works out better this way. Also thinking of instead of trying to fill in the driver's hatch, I'll just cut out that top hull plate and substitute it with styrene to get things going faster. Also gets the turret ring out of the way.

Jon I hope you are not trying to turn that ugly duckling into a graceful swan there . The fender looks good despite your unwanted damage

ComradeMP stunning work there , looking forward to seeing more

I shall start on my KV 122 soon, I promise

Got some more done.

removed the top and added sheet styrene, no filling in! From some pictures I saw, the top plates are slightly higher than the sides, so I decided to raise it a bit. Just need to fill in the recess for the light/horn on the front plate, re do some welds, add the periscopes.

did the same to raise the engine deck area.

Alliance works pe grills.

Have the area ready for the castmate. Probably can't tell but I removed a bunch of plastic and moved some of the bolts.Don't mind the stray plastic, to lazy to trim those odd ends I used for support.

Now I just need some more .020 styrene, down to a few small pieces and I need a whole lot more to finish. Now the wait for the mail man continues..... But maybe the LHS has restocked?.......

P.S.

For you guys building a KV-122, interesting tank. I loved building my trumpy kit.

Hello everyone,

This is what I plan to build.

It's yet another Trumpeter! I also indulged in some friul tracks - never used them before but let's see how they go.

Not sure yet when I'll get started as have still got the weathering of a T62 to finish on the wonderful world of... campaign... Hopefully, soon though.

cheers

Some more work on the KV-1S! As much as I love Trumpeter's remarkable series of KVs, they are not perfect! For example, the engine hatch cover is wrong for the "S" model, at least according to Neil Stokes' research. I elected to "borrow" a domed hatch cover from one of my many other KV kits to replace the one that the kit includes. I also added the inspection port, fashioned from Plastruct tubing of the appropriate diameter.

Two more turret issues include a rather odd "step" at the angle where the armored trunion covers meet the turret top, and the rather anemic-looking "dome" on top of the commander's vision cupola. (marked by yellow arrows)

I am scratch-building a new "dome" for the cupola, complete with the weld-bead, and have sanded-down the existing one. The trunion covers have been built-up with Squadron White Putty, and will be blended into the roof section. I also glued a length of fine styrene rod around the perimeter of the roof, which will be softened with liquid cement, and sculpted into a weld bead later on.

I also have removed the rectangular lift hook base plates, evident in the pic below, as these do not appear in photos of wartime KVs, and appear to be post-war, or even restoration additions.

Once all the physical modifications have been made, I will restore the texture with Mr. Surfacer.

I also did some more work on the lower-hull, adding the torsion arms and return roller mounts.

I have not yet decided on a specific vehicle, so there may be some more modifications in store, but I am happy with the progress so far! More to come!

Hi,
I've recently wrote a review of a KV-5 kit, and thought it would be nice for this campaign. However it was never built. Is it still acceptable?

Smokey welcome to the commune . A nice choice you have there, I'll be building it's big brother in 1/35.

ComradeMP nice progress there

Matthew nice to see you here too and a great vehicle you bring along there. And by all means please finish the T62
first

Greg great looking progress there, it's nice to see someone else who doesn't put up with the manufacturers mistakes.

Andras it looks like you have found a loophole in my rules. As I have forgotten to disallow "what ifs" you can go through with it. But I do wish to see all the scratch work you gonna put into this . It's only fair and good education for those that can't scratch.

Dear Paul,

I really don't want to find loopholes -or twist rules. I got the Ostmodel kit (unfortunately no scratchbuilding, because it IS out of my skill range), and I thought it might or might not fit the rules of this campaign. It is big, it is a KV (one of my favorite tanks in World of Tanks), however, it is a paperpanzer.

Here's the review I wrote.

So if it's not something you'd like to see, it's not a problem at all. Too late to ask those folks in Russia to build one for me.

I thought about getting a KV-220, but that might be out of the time-frame, and I have a lot of other stuff to build, too.

John I have just had an idea , I'll send you the tracks and when you have completed them you can send me them back . I mean you are the "track wizard" around here now, so what better than letting the master do them for me
As for the barrel, yes I have the RB item just forgot to post it.

Tom now that is going for it , looks like some of the speed builders around here better watch out .
Come to think of it, I might have to toss a coin between you or John for my tracks
