What with the recent influx of French subjects in the modelling world, how about a campaign for them? Any vehicle in French Markings would be allowed.

Might that be a racially insensitive term ?

Just saying,if I'm wrong,tell me,because I'm not PC at all.

I don't think it is racially insensitive but surely cultural. I heard the term originated in WWI when the US entered the war (Leave it to Americans to create these unique labels). I can tell you in my way early youth growing up in Canada the term was used to identify our French speaking countryman and though I was very young it seemed to have been used in a condescending manner.

Back to modeling. This would be a good idea. I have a Meng FT-17 and a old Matchbox Char and FT17 kit.

I am interested in the idea. Time to put my old Heller figures to work.

*************************

I always thought of "Frog" as the same as "Kraut", "limey", etc. - an edgy nickname that is not necessarily meant as an offense. But I also thought calling an Aussie a "Digger" and a New Zealander a "Kiwi" was derogatory, until I asked a couple and they told me the terms are a source of pride. If I offend someone with any of those terms, I do not mean to.

I grew up in a time when we all referred to each other with terms like that; my ancestry being French Canadian and German, my family always playfully referred to ourselves as 'Frogs" and "Krauts".

So no offense taken by me, yet I will not consider somebody thin-skinned if they do not want to hear those terms.

From Wikipedia's List of ethnic slurs by ethnicity :

"Rosbifs : In France and Wallonia, comes from the French perception that the English eat a lot of Roast beef, which is similar in that respect to the English calling the French 'Frogs'."

Now that the campaign title issue seems resolved, I rummaged through my stash and found I have 2 Heller kits of French armour but they are in captured markings(H35 and S35). I am assuming that for this campaign they should be in French markings. I also found out my Meng FT-17 has only US and Chinese markings. That leaves with just my old Matchbox kit.

Cheers

Not positive, but my father was a ww2 vet and he had told me frogs came from France because of their great appetite for frogs legs.

Certainly British sailors and soldiers in the 17th/18th centuries referred to the then French enemy as "Monsieur Johnny Crapaud" and "Johnny Frog" so probably not exactly a term of endearment.

Two things....

I'm new to the campaign thing- presume there's no limit to how many one can participate it at any time?
If so, I'll be in for this.

As for "Frog", like a lot of insults it depends on context and intent. If it's meant as an insult it will probably be taken as one. If not, we'll it's like using expletives to describe friends, kind of friendly banter.

Cheers

It's a pejorative term (a slur) and used to insult. It doesn't belong here.

I was just trying to make a sort of catchy aliterative name for the campaign, I'll ask the mods to change it if it accidentally offended anyone.

I don't take it as an offense as long it is not intended as such.
I do eat frog legs and you all must try it once, it's simply excellent and you also can add snails with garlic butter not to speak of the numerous French cheese

I could join if I got something suitable in my stash and the timing of the campaign was not too early this year.

I've already built a VBL and an AMX-10, but I still have two more VBL's in my stash (One with the 50 cal turret) and Tamiya's old Leclerc.. and I was planning to get the AMX-10RCR SEPAR.. So, if the time frame permits, definitely count me in, because I'm already in two other campaigns.

Here's a little motivation to get people into the mood for this
