Hello fellow model builders, I'm getting going on a project I've been considering for a while, maybe even a couple of years. My last few builds have been researched and as close to true to an event as I could pull together - Not this one!

As you guessed by the title it's at least inspired by the movie Bladerunner - a favorite of mine. So, somewhere along the line I read the text that scrolls down the screen at the beginning of the movie - and it turns out, it was supposed to take place in 2019....not that far from today!!...hmmm.

While some of the key aspects of the film are nowhere near
reality, some are...and, the scenes are sure interesting - the variety of people, places, and generally unusual urban life....seems perfect for a dio! Take a look at the images above - the collection of figures, and the street - all sorts of high and low tech stuff....

Also, some of today's tech is pretty cool too - I'm a big fan of the MATV, so, why not set it up with one of the Live Resin "super" CROWS? and....we are in a great era for all sorts of figures...and over the last few years I've been stocking up - just one or two at a time but I now have quite a few that i can use -

And I saw the image above - no, I'm not planning to duplicate the MATV at all (I don't like it all that much) - but, the context is interesting....

and below, the alley near my office....

pretty interesting eh?....

So, an idea:

The idea - some sort of bad guys, on the run from the "Tyrell Corporation", racing their way trough city streets, with the MATV and in another car "Decker" hot in pursuit - they crash into one of the city's many digital info data coms - and then, off on foot, only to find refuge down the street, in a warehouse...good guys in close pursuit, through the intense city life....

Good reasons to start a new dio!

First up, very humble origins - some illustration board, mounted over a framed painting canvas, and the basics for sidewalks, basswood and putty!

Above, the first of many coats of paint...the street Vallejo Base Grey plus some Life Color Dust II - two of my favorites!

Keeping it real...the oil and grime of the streets...

Above, getting toward the "lived in" look....and, adding some cool features:

I didn't want this thing to look like a railroad semaphore! It needed to be more high tech, like the second image from the top, so, this, is getting close!

and another, above. The computer monitor worked ok - the screen is just a few strings of white dots and lines painted on, with crystal green over the top - I do like it!

And, other street fixtures:

And where I left it yesterday:

Looking forward to what I'm hoping to be a fun build!

Thanks for checking it out

Nick

Hey Nick, great concept! Looks to be a bit complex as far as creating various scenes; buildings, civi and mil vehicles, and seems to also require lots of figures.

Based off your past accomplishments and their level of detailing, I'm pretty sure you will create yet another masterpiece.

Will keep an eye on this dio's progress that's for sure.

Thanks for sharing.

Interesting concept Nick. What scale is going to be? Looks like it will be very complex.

Hi Nick,

Unreal buddy!! This is going to be awesome!

Your planning - from concept to drawing allows one to visualize what you are trying to achieve. Your execution takes it to the next level (like the man said "You set the bar too darn high").

I'm following along for sure.

Kobus

amazing road work and the signal apparatus is amazing! How on earth do you guys do this? Is it all practice?

I have a hard time right now since space is limited but hopefully that will get better!

Great looking so far, Nick!

Hi Nick ,

this is going to be Big man ! But you have certainly the skills to turn this fascinating idea into an epic build. Take your time and do not cut your finger(s) please

Nick, fantastic idea and your workmanship is stellar so far! I will be watching this thread with great interest.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

Best wishes,

Ian

Whoa! you guys are paying attention to this! Good! Uhhh, I think..... not to say that now I'm worried!!as the saying goes, feats don't fail me now!

Hi Peter - thanks for dropping by - - for some reason, I thought this build might appeal to you!

Jerry - yes, and then, another project underway! But, remember, at this point, I'm still doing the stuff that I know can do, and do so pretty quickly - you, on the other hand, are well into the nuance of not only painting, but essentially custom building and painting two dozen figures! piece of cake....Ugh! I'll eventually need to start on those too, but that will be some time from now. Thanks

Hi Mike - yep, I finally pulled the trigger - here we go!

JG - thanks for the note! but be careful, we are walking pretty closely on parallel paths of projects that might take a while to finish - great work, on yours BTW!

Hi Monte - thanks - this is 1/35 scale, as for the complexity, well, I'm hoping it becomes a fun spring build - before back to "real" armor and AFVs....

Conor! haha! I'm hoping I don't fall off of that bar!

Hi Kobus, thanks for dropping by and appreciate your comments! Believe it or not, the little sketches are pretty useful for me to - just to get a sense of how things might go together. We'll see - this one will require some head scratching!

Hi Julen, thanks, and for taking the time to comment!

11Bravo_C2 - Sleep? I don't need no stinking sleep!!!!....well, it doesn't hurt - thanks for the comment

Hi Patrick - yes, practice does help (ask Jerry how many times he's reminded me of that). I'll add two other points too - try out your own ideas and see if they work (even if not an idea "known by all") and what happens - who knows, it might be great?, and, if things don't turn out to your liking, tear them out and try again - I don't like being done and seeing something I knew looked wrong along the way, and guess what? it still looks wrong when the project is done...

EdKlington - thanks for having a look and taking the time!

Kurt - haha! yes, the cut up fingers....good times eh? I've also sawed, and drilled into the same - no fun! I'm looking forward to this build - thanks for checking it out. I'll no doubt be going through your built files for ideas!

HI Maarten - thanks for dropping by - hopefully, i can get close to what I'm hoping for on this build!

Ian - you know, I'm changing your callsign to:

"ROY BATTY" serial code N6MAA10816

thanks - let's hope this works!

HI Cheyenne - thanks - you know, it was looking at your public pool that I decided to go for the basswood sidewalks- it's a great material that you can do almost anything with - and there will be more!

OK, I do have an update. First, I finished the telecom, data, street light, digital data, thing - first, a pic of the lighting from the movie:

and mine

And that's now done - on to other stuff. I decided a small corner building will have the plaster conc foundation - on one hand, I love the look of plaster, on the other, what a pain to use! that said, there's a way I do it, that at least I can predict, and I can use when the project is right - please take a look:

Just like concrete, I set up my form boards, add some wire rebar and good to go - I add in a splash or two of various vallejo colors to get the look I want:

and then add some alcohol and ink for weather:

OK - now, back to the real job - happy model building

What is the actual material used for the concrete or is that a trade secret?

Amazing... did you ever consider running electrics through the concrete as well so you could do functioning light stanchions? Not necessarily on this project but others with the wire going through the base to a power source?

Just curious...

Somehow I missed this one, and was wondering what you were up to next. So I searched and came across what looks to be the start of something that's gonna raise the bar again!
