When I installed the canopy support crossmember it was a little too wide for the body and was left under compression once I got it all clamped down. Didn't think much of it, but during the course of painting and weather it got handled a little too much and the stress caused it to crack:

Since it's under compression I just could not get it to straighten back out so I decided the only thing to do was replace it. So I carefully cut away the cracked center section:

And then as I reached for my knife to cut a new piece, proceeded to drop the knife right on the model and snap off what was left right were it joined the body!

Finally got everything glued back in position:

The new cross piece is a little too large in diameter, but I think once it's painted and everything else is in place it won't stand out quite so badly.

Now it's back to masking, priming and painting....

Involuntary scratch building The replacement looks good, tough.

That is a strange color for an interior... Is this a party Schwimmwagen with some glitter to follow?

To be honest, Christian, I didn't have any reference to help me figure out what color it should be--standard dunkelgrau or dunkelgelb--so I just picked one and went with it.

Howdy Y'all
I think it looks like a dunkelgrau Schwimmwagen to me. After some dunkelgelb became available it must have been repainted and some camouflage added. The interior was left dunkelgrau. Sounds plausible to me.
Take care,

Sorry, I was referring to the purple interior color... Or is it just the light?

Definitely just the lighting. Those were just some quick bench shots to show the damage and repair. When I'm done I'll take better photos in my "photo booth"

Done with my m151 mutt!My airbrush decided to crap out so the merdc Camouflage was applied by hand. The decals decided to frost as well so nothing wanted to come together on this little guy.

That's going to look great, Daniel.

Calling my schwimmwagen finished:

Not my best result ever, but it's passable. I find that the smaller the subject the harder it is to get it right.

And except for the forced repair on the cross-brace this is the first 100% OOB build I've done in years. Overall not a bad kit.

Are you going for a winter wash, Daniel? Does the hairspray technique render good results in this case? Looking forward to see more of this!

Congrats on the finished build, Mark! Looks great!

Way to go Mark!
I love that Dunkelgrau Schimwagen that was later painted Dunkelgelb in the field, along with some camouflage.
Nice build and great fix on the cross bar.
Take care,
