Progress update Pf.11 Pontonwagen

Load of Pf.11 ready:

From right to left: 4 Longitudinal beams, 1 Fixing beam, 1 Base beam, 1 Transition ramp(8t), 2 Halfbeams, Pf.11 with 2 Spike plates in the load bed, 18 Cover planks, 1 Anchor and 1 Connecting piece. Still missing are 2 sets of Anchor cables, will add them after painting.

Pf.11 with load:

Top view:

Next I'll finish the horse harness elements(6 horses were needed to pull the fully loaded Pf.11) and will prime/paint the trailer and its load.

Then I'll start working on the pontoon(it is a half-pontoon actually),

That looks great, Angel!!

I need to hurry up and get my MAN 5 ton finished in the Logistics World campaign so I can work on this one. Probably the M9 ACE or the M1 ABV.

Thanks gentlemen for your kind words!

Kalin, why don't you show here the Pf. 12 you are scratchbuilding?

Greetings Modelers!

I went ahead and extended our campaign until 31 DEC 2019. So, if you haven't done so yet, join up! There's plenty of time now! Even a slow-assed modeler like me can finish at least one kit before the end of the year!

Post! Post! Post! Let's see what you're working on!

Hello, Richard!
About a month ago I began building a Pionierfahrzeuge Pf.12 (Rampenwagen). Scratchbuild + Panzerart's resin tires. This is my progress in building it.

My question is, can I join the campaign?

Well, it's a little farther along than I'd like; but sure, why not!

Welcome to the campaign!

Sprayed some paint on the Pf.11 I'm doing for this campaign:

Started construction of the halfpontoon:

Made a wrong calculation with pontoons width, but found the mistake early and now the pontoon is sitting on top of the Pf.11:

And a mock up of the most usefull picture for my build (Pf.11 in a road side ditch):

The original:

The last picture is how the model will look finished.
I think he'll be cool.
Good luck.

Thanks Batze, but...

The finished models will definetely not lay on their side in a road ditch

Thanks Peter!

I'm getting closer and closer to the finish line with my builds for this campaign.

Pontoon painted and partially weathered:

Had to do some changes to trailer load locations to assure the pontoon is sitting nice and neat:

Tried the combo:

48 cm. long...
I will need quite a big display box for it.

Still need to do some final weathering, so a bit more to come from me soon,

Thanks again Peter!

There's no better way of modelling wood, than using real wood:
Cheap wooden(birch) coffee stirrers.
Sprayed with the basecolour, left to dry, then sanded to show the grain.
Then thinned AK Wood Wash(highly recommended, BTW), some White Spirit here and there.
Then another sanding with fine grit paper and finally- 2 layers of diluted Tamya Flat Clear, applied by brush.

Plain and simple as that

Thanks Robert!

It was a fun build with a lot of Manual reading, guessing and combing for photographic proofs.

Okay, just to show I have not been idle (doing several kits at once....)

Dragon Sherman V (aka M4A4) and Legend Crab Flail conversion.

Firstly, an often overlooked requirement for this vehicle - the front 4 suspension bogies have been modified to lower the front of the tank. The weight of the Flail apparatus resulted in the front bogie almost bottoming out and the middle ones compressing noticeably as evident in photos of the real vehicle.

Legend mantelet with cover and periscope extensions added. Had to use the kit barrel as the Legend one had a huge slot hole from trapped air and correcting was not worth the hassle. Just cut the cover part off the Legend barrel section, dilled it out and fitted the Dragon one. Didn't see a need for a turned replacement. Also added some cast texture:

Added Meng bolt heads to the track skids although you can barely see them here. The kit instructions do not mention these (however I discovered that there are a string of bolt heads moulded in the sprues which I did not notice until later). All the white bits are styrene rod glued in the location holes for the kit tools. These will be trimmed flush and PE straps and tie downs added later. This pic of the other side proves all road wheels sit flat after the mods have been done!!

PS, before someone tells me the grouser box tops are on backwards, they were turned around on the flail to prevent dirt and debris accumulating in them!

Some of the Legend parts trimmed from the carrier blocks. A few air holes, which is to be expected, and yes I have to try and straighten quite a few bananas, or some scratch building will be needed. Note the slot hole in the barrel (second from the top) as per comment above.

Cheers

Peter

Short update from my side:

-A thread about German Assault Bridges made me realize I did a stupid mistake in my Campaign build: while building the Uebergangsschiene(8t) for the load of Pf.11, I somehow missed the fact, that it is arched, not flat...

-I scratchbuilt one(AFV Club's Assault Bridge was used as refference) and mounted it on the trailer:

As to finishing my subjects-I'm still waiting for the Weathering Muse to drop by...
