Hi all,

I currently have a Miniart T-55 Mod. 1963, and an SU-122-54 Late Type which I'm hoping are both indicative of types used during Operation Danube, the invasion of Czechoslovakia, in 1968.

Can anyone direct me towards the correct type of T-54 that would have been used during the Operation? (If at all) I'm afraid my knowledge of Soviet armour has taken a beating recently!

Many thanks,

Mike

Most soviet divisions where catagory B present for operation Danube.
So both T-54A or T-54B can be used. (most probably rebuild examples)

I believe the takom T-54B kit even has markings for it.

HTH,

Sam.

Thanks Sam!

As soon as you mentioned markings I checked the Star decal sheet that I have for Danube and it includes a set for a Soviet T-54A

I probably should have checked that!

You can even use Meng's T-10 tank; it has the same markings and was the only military action for this tank type in history.

There were all variants involved in the invasion, because you can not go wrong

Thought for you. Years ago I remember seeing a neat Prgae Spring dio. A T-54 or 55 on a cobblestone street, some of the stones torn up and a civilian figure throwing a cobblestone at the tank. One side of the turret/ upper hull had a big red splash where someone had nailed it with a bucket of paint.

Appropriate title for such a diorama: "Here comes Russian winter!"

I've recently got hold of a copy of Josef Koudelka's Invasion 68: Prague, featuring many of his award winning photographs from the time - I'm hoping to recreate one or some potentially

It sounds like the one that featured on the cover of AFV Modeller a few years ago. Article still available as a PDF download from AFVM’s web shop.

Oops! Got my Iron Curtain Uprisings mixed up. Photo was from Hungary, 1956. She's still cute.

Have you seen the Hungarian movie Dear Elsa? Some real nice ladies in that movie.

Glad you like it. He's doing an outstanding job on the MiniArt kit.
Will follow your build, if this is a future building over here, with interest.

Kind regards,

Robert Jan
