A campaign related question: how could I apply for some 1-2 weeks time extension as the 3.5 week business travel to Poland slowed down my troops on the way to Triumph?

That's no problem, Tamas! I think of an extension of 4 weeks to give everybody here the chance to finish his build. I guess Pasi also needs some extra time for his ItPsv90. So the end of this camapaign will be the 1. December 2020. I hope that's okay for you guys.

Hi Torsten,

These extra 4 weeks will surely help me completing the campaign. Guess what: I will have another 2 weeks business travel back to Poland in the first half of November. Actually I have finished the camo painting and look for applying the decals and protective semi-gloss lacquer layers this weekend. With a little luck I will be able to do some weathering, too. If it is not possible, I will have a good chance to do the weathering after returning from the trip and so complete the campaign.
My idea is to present a mid-dirty vehicle as most of my on-the-field reference photos show the Polish 2a5’s dirty and muddy. Not extreme but definitely weathered.

I will upload some photos after the semi-gloss lacquer done. The current look is awful because the Gunze green became way too shiny, the Vallejo light brown is dead matt and the Gunze/A.MIG black is patchy from dark grey and deep black tone variations. After applying some filter, panel liners and built-up dirt it will be nicely balanced I am sure. But right now it is ... ehhh... under-satisfactory.

Apart from my painting result, the Revell kit with the A/M detail-up sets (main gun, minor details, indy tracks, smoke grenades) looks great and has well-defined panel lines, details and so on.

Kelly, you can't go wrong if you paint the tools completely in Bronze Green RAL 6031 or NATO Green. And the soft edges on your Leo also look right. I always spray that camo free hand without masks. So my Leos all have a soft edge camo and I also don't care about the total correct colour placement. About right is good enough for me.

I have a similar situation this time. There was a poor b/w photocopied (?) paper packed to the Polish decals and the green and the light brown patches were presented with almost identical greyish-dotted areas. So I could only do my best to place the patches just about right dueing the airbrush process. Fortunately the Polish camo looks soft-edged, although I do not really care as the mid-dirty weathering will cover it to some extent.

This time my motto was: “if I like what I see and it looks like the real stuff, it is OK enough”.

Once I will do my Hungarian 2A4 version (next year) I will be able to paint much more correctly as the Hungarian decal manufacturer provided much better drawing and also there are great walkaround photos already.

Hi,

Let me show here the Revell Leopard 2A5 Polish version basic camo painting completed. It was not the easiest painting process I ever did because the original paint set (Hataka red line) was impossible to dilute even with their own stuff. I lost about 3 hours before simply wasted the paints and the thinner and turned to Vallejo, A.MIG and Gunze Mr Hobby colors.



The final result is still not perfect (the Vallejo light brown) caused quite some overspraying because poor thinning (I tried all heavy stuff laying around) and due to the over-thinned black (my fault). The only good result is the Gunze green which became shiny. I decided to stop airbrushing here as there will be lot of sand, dust and mud on the tank.

I hope to apply the decals, do some minor touch-ups here and there plus a good cover with semi-flat protective coating this weekend. If enough time left, I will also do some mid weathering. At least this is plan A.

Tamas, you might find flaws on your build (we are always our hardest critics, aren't we?), but from this side of the monitor your Leo looks great. And the different polish camo to the original german gives it a certain kick.

@ all: I don't plan to give another extension after the 1. Dec. So try to get your builds finished as soon as possible so we hopefully can close this campaign still in the old forum.

So kinda bummed on how the glass is coming out. usually I cut the glass pices and in the past have kept in place using a putty. This time i used the testors clear parts window cement which I highly like and recommend. enough that I am looking forward to doing model panes finally which I avoided because of the canopies. Actually I think elmers white glue could do the same here for this issue. With either product, just slightly fill the hole with glue.



Usually my liquid masking works as it did with this Abrams build, but like I said this time it didnt want to wipe away like in the past. This time I used a spray can primer versus Vallejo air. Won't being doing that way again.

So a couple things. First I am working on some of the extras tonight so I am getting closer.



Second some info on painting. I have started using model masters primer for all my builds. It has made a world of difference in how the finishes are coming out. I used to use Vallejo primer as my only primer and going this way, the paint grabs so much better to the primer. It just way better. like painting a sponge and not having any running issues.



I also use rubber gloves more and more during my building and clean down with rubbing alcohol before spraying.

last I just noticed yesterday about the forum changing. I only post in this section really. From what it looks like so far, I am not keen on that new look at all. After these campaigns it might be it for me. I am in nine currently.

Thank you Torsten, very kind words!

I have applied the decals today and also a satin finish (A.MIG product, highly recommeded, easy to airbrush, nice finish) and the interim look is really nice. The varnish has unified the shine of the different colours so I am much more relaxed by now. I will do some hand painting on minor details (tools, lamps, wheel centers etc...) tomorrow evening and then start weathering. I will upload some pics on Sunday morning.

Final pics and calling this one done. This has been one of the best kits for fitment I have built. I thought the window issue was going to be a problem. But I ended up saving it and the Vallejo paint went on really well. I am not going to weather this one as I like the way it sits already.

So now need to focus on my A6 Italeri kit.

Lots of great builds done here. I now have an itch to do a A4 and a A7 very soon after seeing the ones here.

I also wanted to add the paints I used if anyone curious. They went on really good and the colors come out super flat.

Yes, Kelly, there's some bigger trouble with all campaign galleries. Maybe they are already shut down .... I wanted to add my P-39 Airacobra build to the Lend-Lease gallery but was also not successful.

So, I suggest that everybody who has finished his build posts 2 photos of it here in this thread and I see what I can do, so everybody gets his ribbon. This campaign runs only 1 more week. So hurry up if you're close to the finish line!

Hi Torsten,

I have no good luck with this campaign now. Just after the photos were uploaded, my wife was diagnosed with Covid so I had to move to my daughter’s (old) room for separation. There I had no chance to work on the model. Right after this period was over, I finished the model but just before uploading pics, I had to return to Poland for work again and I am still here. I do hope to return home this saturday and make the photos to complete the campaign.

There are some good news although: I could see some Romanian Gepard SPAAGs here on the arty field waiting and manouvering and because of that, I bought the Meng kit here in Warsaw. Currently I am building OOB that in the hotel room (yes,the model shop had all the tools required so I could also renew some worn ones in one shot). Surely this kit will not participate in the campaign but at least a good fun in the late afternoons (it is a bit cold and rainy over here, I simply do not want to walk outside).

Good fun for all and I keep my fingers x-ed to get back home just in time to get the ribbon!

Tamas, I hope your wife has recovered from Covid 19 by now and it was not painful for her. Here in my town the incidence rate is around 100, one day a bit higher, the next a bit lower. Though it's still too high, it's lower than in many other places in Germany. We'll see what December brings .... I was once tested for Covid in the end of September and was negative. So I hope everything stays well with you and your family. And don't worry about the ribbon. You'll be fine ....

Gentlemen,

Best news for me today: with a bit of a luck, I could finish the Revell Leopard 2A5PL version so that now I report it here as a campaign completion.

It was a heroic job today to finish all minor bits but I could get to the status as on the photos taken.

Being in one of the Polish Army shooting area recently, I could see their heavy eqp (mostly SP Howitzers and Rosomak APCs and no an Leos nor Twardys) I can surely tell you that those guys are victoriously fighting with rust, wear and tear so I did keep the model as "nice" as possible with applying dirt only.





There is more dirt since the photos were taken in the afternoon sun (no proper lights in my house during the night) so I did some cosmetics since but yeah, now it is ready.

One short word about the kit itself: regardless how hard I tried to improve the look with all techniques and the a/m PE set, the Revell kit is not better than mediocre in finesse and sharp detail. I started (nearly finished) a Gepard SPAAG from Meng during my trip in Poland (evenings in the hotel can be very useful sometimes) and the Meng is lightyears ahead in any aspect. So my verdict is that the Revell is a good choice for a novice or for one modeling on limited budget only.

Thank you all for the encouraging words on my progress, more for your works which did inspire me and refilled the mojo and last but not the least for Torsten who did extend the campaign until tomorrow.

Dear all,
today this campaign comes to an end and I want to thank everybody who was willing to participate, to everybody who started his build and especially to everybody who has finished his build. We have 6 finished models and I have awarded the ribbons to the proud owners. It was my first campaign as a campaign leader and I had lots of fun doing it. On the other hand for the most of us it is the last campaign in the old forum. I hope we see eachother also in the new Kitmaker Forum.
